hey, great thread. thanks pryuen. nice break from the negativity. Good on the Rocks - and best wishes to the young man.
this isnt about basketball, this is real life. just good to see this. makes you realize whats important.
Life is vulnerable. I have this feeling especially when it comes to some one I know. It's like we were talking 4 or 5 days ago. But later the car accident took his life away. I just could believe that. So I always tell myself treasure things you have , be happy and good to others otherwise you will regret deeply when you lose it. The little boy have not started his bright life but it already comes to the end of it. Some people are meant to be in some kind of life track. But at least, the little boy is surrounded by the people he loves and cares. I wish the rest days of the little body wont be painful.
Very touching and moving. Wonder if ESPN recorded this for their My Wish program. I saw some moving episodes like TMac, Kobe, and Michelle Kwan fulfilling a kid's dream of meeting them.
Let's not just feel sorry for this kid, let's donate to the fight http://www.cancer.org/docroot/DON/content/DON_0.1_General_Donation.asp I wish that kid and other children(and adults) the best in their battle. I hope Les (I'm sure he does plenty of donations and community work) and the rockets players donate to the cause. I'm sure Derrick Fisher knows a thing or two about this kind of thing, though his kid is beating it. good thread.
Great story, pryuen. Thank you. For once, I won't complain about the photos. It really warms your heart and something to think about the next time we complain about the team. They stepped up for that kid. Sure hope the little tyke pulls through, somehow. And don't think that didn't mean the world to his parents, either. Damn, I'm lucky to have 2 healthy children. This really puts a lot into perspective. Those guys should dedicate the next game to the boy and get a win, then give him the game ball signed by the team and the coaches.
Life is not fair. Why does a child( or anyone) have to go through this. But great to see the kid get his wish.
Here's the chronicle article on it: http://www.chron.com/disp/story.mpl/sports/bk/bkn/5468502.html Ill child's wish fulfilled by T-Mac By JONATHAN FEIGEN Copyright 2008 Houston Chronicle Kameron Oliver, 7, a cancer patient and Make-A-Wish participant, visited Rockets practice Friday and will attend tonight's game. Oliver's wish to meet Tracy McGrady was fulfilled before he met and posed for pictures with the team. "That's what it's all about," McGrady said. "Despite all the glamour, the fame, the fortune, everything like that, when a kid's last wish is to meet a player such as myself and other teammates, to brighten his day and put a smile on his face, there is nothing better than that. That's something you'll cherish the rest of your life, knowing you made a kid's day." Oliver's pastor, Cedric Robbins, said Oliver was told he had six months to live eight months ago. "I feel sad," Yao Ming said. "I know he is sick. I had no idea about how hard it is. "We're happy we can do something for him, to fulfill the wish. We'll dedicate the game to him, be friendly to him, make him happy. I like this. I like the idea, but I wish less and less kids have this problem. It is also for me, unforgettable. I don't know if I could handle this tough a situation." Asked about playing the Spurs tonight, Yao said. "We will win for the kids." "He is more of a man than I'll ever be," Shane Battier said of Oliver. "I want to go home and kiss my wife and tell my mom and dad I love them because health is the most important gift you have in this world. "He reminded us of that. Kameron, what a great guy. He was smiling out there. Go home and kiss your babies tonight.
Great pictures! Best group shot ever...It looks like a "FAMILY". Really, guys need to bond on the court as well. Feel sorry about the kid. Hope he will recover. ALL THE BEST to both him and ROX!
