Here is what I can think of

The Good (in no order) trading for

    1-Bagwell
    2-Jose Cruz
    3-Mike Hampton
    4-Alou
    5-Mike Scott
    6-Kevin Bass

and of course the free agent signings of Clemens/Pettitte/Kent/Ryan

The Bad (also in no order) trading away

    1-Joe Morgan
2-the Cami/Finley blockbuster to San Diego
    3-Kenny Lofton
4-Rusty Staub (for the old timers)
    5-Schilling
    6-Letting Santana go
    7-Billy Wagner?
8-Jennings trade giving up three young players

and of course not resigning many, many of there own free agents due to money over the years

The Lofton one still hurts because how long has that dude been playing, of course I say the Bagwell trade was the best and I guess all time trading Joe Morgan was the worst

    Easy...

    Best - Bagwell

Worst - Nolan Ryan (yeah it wasnt a trade, but it was a horrible move)

Santana was lost to Rule 5, I think, not traded away.

i think the billy wagner trade has to be the worst in my lifetime
this guy is the best closer we've ever had in our history
he's still getting the job done,
by the time his career is over he could be perrenial hall of fame

    best hands down bagwell

The Glenn Davis trade is one of the most lopsided in mlb history. For the Astros it would have clearly topped the Bagwell trade if they would have held onto Finley and Schilling. Ahh what if? As is it's still a top 2 all-time best for the team.

I think Pete Harnisch was in that trade too. That trade was ridiculously lop-sided.

Good, bad, or indifferent, the Randy Johnson trade has to factor in somewhere. Personally, I think it was one of the best, even though it didn't lead to a championship.

Cami and Finley to San Diego for nothing but trash is the worst by far.

Tal Smith and his son screwed us royally.

Derek Bell had a couple of pretty outstanding seasons that helped the Astros to division titles. I know he ended up sucking pretty badly, and Cammy & Finley became all-stars. I guess because of the success the Astros had after that trade, I don't see it as the worst ever.

That move was not intended to make the team better. That trade was intended to reduce payroll...plain and simple. Mission accomplished.

    co-signed, Kevin Brown.

It's not like we were terrible immediately after the trade. We only went on the best 10-year run in franchise history.

the freaking Unit was 10-1 in two+ months we won 102 games and can't get out of the first round.

Too bad no Lima Time in that 5th game

    baseball playoffs=stupid

5 game series with so many off days is not = to regular season play

Yep, I agree. The scheduling that series was a joke.

I still miss Billy Spiers. He was quickly becoming one of my favorite Astros. He was a better version of Mark Loretta.

That is some pretty horrible logic, quite similar to those that justify the Battier trade by saying 'we weren't going to draft Gay anyways!' Neither of those arguments negates the fact that they were both horrible trades and they both left our teams worse for wear than they would have been.

They won 3 straight division titles after that trade. I think they still ended up ok. Yes, they might have been even better with Finley and Cammy, but it's not like they went in the tank either.

I know it didn't work out in the end, but I don't think I've ever been more excited over a trade than when I first heard about that one.
