Like I said, many people in this country in this country are against China for one reason or another, as illustrated by posters in this bbs. I don't think there is another country like that in the world not even Iran and NK. People don't like Iran and NK, but they don't think they will lose jobs to them anytime soon or they will over take the US in the near future.
Replace the word "totalitarian" with "authoritarian" and you have a somewhat sensible description of the Chinese government and how it relates to its citizens.
Mostly US is freeer when it comes to freedom of press, but also it depends on the content of the press in many situations. Wrong. Communism at its core is common ownership of the means of production, or economic egalitarianism if you will. In China today, privately owned business is everywhere, people get to keep what they have earned (or profited), stock/mutual fund market is booming than ever. Sure there are still abundant and sizable state-owned entities, but it's nothing even remotely close to communist economic structure. Just because PRC is ruled by a political party that has the word "communism/communist" in the name it does NOT mean PRC is a communist country. There are plenty of countries whose names contain the word "Democratic." Are you ready, for instance, to call North Korea, or Democratic People's Republic of Korea, a democracy? Why can't they go to churches and preach as guest speakers? Don't they have better things to do other than preaching Gospel in China? I can't blame PRC for being a little paranoid over foreign missionaries. When you have so many missionaries coming into China following the gunboats which conquered China since the Opium War, you kind grow wary of them. I don't see the answer to your question adds much to the discussion.
why are the chinese posters (like this dude) so insecure? 1. people live in countries controlled by governments 2. no government is perfect 3. its perfectly fair to criticize a government cause the truth is important 4. you can be a patriot and criticize your country but crazy and insecure Chinese posters here throw the flying guillotine when something is reported about their government. think about it, you want your kids playing with toys with toxic chemicals? no. was it the hard working Chinese people's fault? no. it was the government's fault for not having stricter policies. American people are just free thinkers and consider themselves as individuals, we can say and do and criticize anything we want. I'm proud to be a country where everyone is different.
Americans have negative feelings about China because we live an enviable lifestyle made possible in part by our disproportionate exploitation of the worlds resources and we know if we have to share there will be less for us. It's the same reason southerners resisted the abolition of slavery. The same reason Japan wanted to control East Asia and Hitler wanted the Alsace-Lorraine. The same damn reason Rome wanted Egypt. It's a preemptive mindset in the survival of the fittest. We are the lead dog with the best view and we don't want to lose it. It doesn't have to mean war or violence but competition is inevitable. The Borg thing really does illuminate the difference. We see China as an unstoppable collective of personality-less conformity and we are the defenders of freedom; individualist and free thinkers. When I think of China I think of a 100,00 sq. ft. factory floor where 1000 people in hair nets are sewing in lables on Fruit-Of-The-Loom underwear for 60 hours a week so they can go home to their 600 Sq. Ft. apartment with three generations living in it and yet another dinner of rice and fish. It's like a sci-fi future nightmare.
I think the best way to eliminate racism is to have a multi-racial society. A poor legal "immigrant" will probably be treated better in the U.S. and have more opportunity in life than any other country in the world. Notice I say poor, meaning there's nothing to gain from this person economically. If anything, the U.S. is the best experiment on bring the world together. It's still an on going experiment, but rarely do you see people changing for the better.
Can it be more obvious than that? If you believe that syin1 is Chinese, you are dumber than a sack of rocks.
This is the same wnes who has, on this very BBS, accused me of being a foreign agent provocateur fomenting rebellion on Chinese soil. Shows you the kind of state-enabled paranoia living in an authoritarian regime like the PRC will give you.
There is a group of people (or may well be just the same person) who hate Chinese in this bbs. They(He) would pretend to be a so-called YOF to say crazy stuffs in GARM in order to instigate the easily-deceived posters to bash Yao's fans in general. This syin1 is just playing the same stupid trick in this forum here. That's why I said whoever believes that syin1 is really a Chinese is dumber than a sack of hammers. You are a simple-minded person if you got worked up by such a silly trick.
interesting read. i knew certain posters would come here and say what they said. just shows you how predictable and how little they know about china or any asian country for that matter.
that's pretty clever and oh so sneaky......but i'd agree with you, there is a group of chinese haters on this bbs.
Getting into discussions regarding nationalism is bound to always suck. First, neither side truly knows the other enough to make more than absurd generalizations. And second, is anyone really going to say that his/her country sucks? As a Chinese American who has traveled and lived in both countries extensively, I hear quite a bit of seemingly horrific and ridiculous opinions from friends and associates on both sides. There's no cure for this except for more understanding. Which is difficult because of the language and distance barrier. Not to mention incredibly biased reporting on both sides. It's very unfortunate indeed.
Well, the OP is dumb to use such a stupid and obvious trick. The ones who got worked up by the OP are even dumber.
