That old man was terrorizing your wife. We need to combat terrorism. For the sake of democracy and freedom, that old man needs to be sent to Alaska, put on an ice floe and nudged out to sea.

The only wreck I've ever been in was someone pulling out in front of me in downtown Austin. I was driving defensively and noticed the car at the stop sign. As soon as I saw them go, I slammed on my brakes and still hit the car in the backdoor. Completely the other driver's fault, she received a ticket, she apologized to me, but Allstate said it was like 25% my fault because I said I saw the car at the stop sign.

Allstate could offer me free insurance for a year and I still wouldn't use them as my insurance carrier.

according my DD class, even if you had the right of way, it can still be your fault if you could have avoided it. in Texas, anyways.

Really sorry to hear about that, man that guy was being a total jerk. Esp. with wanting to talk to your agent, regardless of what kind of coverage you guys have it'll cover the damages on the other persons car and all insurances have allowances for rental cars for the other party

The only way I could've avoided it was by stopping once I saw her car. I stopped as soon as I saw her car move.

Major has a similar story with Allstate. They blow.

So basically its never anyone's fault? If I knew that person was going to run the red light, I obviously could've stayed at home and called in sick (was driving to work).

more and more each day i am surprised of how little people care about others. its simple... be friendly, be courteous. i applaud you and your wife for how yall have handled it so far. it aggrevates me everyday when i read stories or go threw my own situations where people are constantly ignorant and just plain morans. lol just watch maury povich or divorce couty (i tend to watch these on my lunch breaks). this world is going to end up killing itself one day

can you counter sue for the stress hes caused and the time hes taken from yall? :D

I hate to be the voice of dissent here but, your wife fell asleep at the wheel...with your kids in the car...and ran into another car...and you're worried about the guy she hit being an *******?

You need to reassess the direction of your concern.

my wife had a couple (illegals) back into her at a stop sign. A cop came and there was no damage to either vehicle but my wife had already given them her insurance information. They later sued for sore backs and then again when their baby was born with a broken arm. I don't know if they ever got any money from our insurance.

I also just got this email from a friend...

Last night at approx. 6:30, my husband was robbed on N. Eldridge Parkway between Grant and Cypress N. Houston. It was just on this side of the Lismore Lake subdivision.

He was traveling home (toward) Grant when a car in front of him slowed to do a U turn, and the pickup behind him "bumped" him, getting him to pull to the side, of course.

The car in front when on (we now know that it was in on the whole thing). Before he could even get out of his truck to check on the damage, a man was at his window and proceeded to "beat" him. We don't know what he was hit with, but his face and left arm had several lacerations. (His arm was hit when he was trying to defend himself.) He will be okay, but he looks pretty bad.

The police believe this will be the beginning of more to come, so I want everyone to beware. Do not stop, if bumped, at least not until you are in a well-lit PUBLIC place.

it sucks dealing with this stuff.

We got a knock on the door the day after Christmas by someone delivering papers that my wife being sued for a minor wreck caused by her nearly two years ago.

Insurance is handling it now but I was pissed at first since we thought this was taken care of a long time ago.

F ambulance chaser lawyers, they even called our house, which they shouldn't be doing.

VodooPope... ummm... how did she know they were illegals...? Did your wife ask for their work visa?

I think the dude overreacted, and good thing that the dude didn't attack Mrs. Valdez.

 Now you're making me feel bad about this motorcycle dude hitting the back of my COROLLA. You be the judge, though... check out these photos:

Did I overreact by calling the dude's insurance in this case? :(

Luckily, there was a police officer doing TRAFFIC... on Lamar and Milam... a few months back. He was very nice and kept saying "I'm sorry" to me, but I first asked if he was OK. He wasn't paying attention as I was stopped on a red light to turn right and WHAM-O! He hit the back of my Corolla. [YES, I KNOW I HAVE A DIRTY CAR]

His insurance paid everything and I had a rental.

I've seen this reported a few times on the news here in Florida. One of our employees lives out in the boondocks so she takes a long, secluded road home. She had nearly the same thing happen to her, one car in front, one in back, both trying to slow down enough to trap her and hijack her. It's like pirates on the road. But a cop car inexplicably was in the area and turned onto the same street behind the three of them and she was able to escape. Of course the cop didn't know what was happening just before he turned onto the same street so they got away.

That's fine. But if you some how charged his insurance 25K for back injury or neck pain, then you would be a scumbag :p

I figured somebody would say that eventually. I figure, she immediately owned up to her mistake, claimed fault, apologized, and made things right by contacting the insurance company so the guy could be paid for the damages. He's been taken care of.

As for the risk to herself and others from nodding off at the wheel when the car isn't moving: it happens to people sometimes. I'm not sure the chance of her falling asleep and hitting someone is any higher than the risk of hitting someone while changing the radio station or checking out the girlies on the jogging trail.

    So,

Making a mistake and getting into a small accident = inevitable and understandable.

Being an a-hole to everyone around you = eternally avoidable and not acceptable.
