I think you may have misread hkomives' intention. He agreed with Will's pos and appears to be pointing out the fact tht announcers fail to appreciate what Chuck and Shane bring.
to be fair, only the first three lines were in direct response to his post, the rest of it is pentup scorn for some of the talk I read around here...considering how often I post, I have to make best use of the few I do post.
They should come off the bench I feel if they start on any team that team will not win a championship they are good parts to come off the bench that is what i am saying
But wouldn't the games against the top-tier teams give you a better idea of what Hayes and Battier bring (or not bring) as starting lineup? In the upcoming game against NO, for example, Hayes will most likely have to stop David West while Battier will shadow Stojakovic for most of the game. They don't have to necessarily win these matchups, but they'll have to hold their own for the Rockets to have any chance.
Its irrelevant whether they start or not. The fact of the matter is that when they are given minutes they produce.
no one hates hayes or battier, its hard to when they always give a good effort unlike someone else on the rockets team. the problem is, they're really not that good and they get exposed easily during a 7 game playoff series not so much during the regular season since they're always playing a different team.
Hayes and Battier are valuable additions to the team, thats for sure. Does that mean our best lineup is one with both of them on the court at the same time? Not necessarily. Lets look at Pheonix lineup: Nash Barbosa Hill Marion Stoudemire Thats five loaded guns. To compete with teams like this, the Rockets need to be able to score points. Battier and Hayes do have value, but they are offensive black holes. I'd like to see TMac used as SF so that we can keep 2 of our guards on the court. Let Battier come off the bench.
i don't think anyone on this board has stated that they hate these guys. And just cuz someone insists that Hayes > Scola or Battier > Rudy Gay does not make them a "real" basketball fan. There is sometimes a tendency by experts to overrate guys who are chronically "underrated" (see Ben Wallace and that contract). Hayes and Battier definitely have value. Lots of people on this board just happen to think that one of them should be coming off the bench. The whole "starting" thing doesn't matter anyways. It's about who gets the minutes during crunch time. I eventually see Scola becoming our defacto power forward. I don't think anyone who thinks so is an a-hole noob.
Agreed on the second part, but Chuck's consistency in rebounding is in question. He has big rebounding games and he has subpar rebounding games. Some of the games I showed you him AND Battier would combine for 6-9 Rebs, which from our starting PF, isn't really a good thing. He gets into foul trouble easy. Sure he hustles, but I still don't find him worthy of a starting position, not with his lack of offense and size.
i don't hate the guys, but the Rockets seemed so much more fluid with the 3 rookies -Scola, Landry, and Brooks playing
Hayes holding Randolph in check. Thats the funnies thing i heard all week. Randolph sucks , he is not even close to the player he was a couple of seasons ago. Thats the best you got, if so, watch more games.
Rocket starters are lame...need fresh, bench energy...sorry Hayes, Battier...and Rafer is drifting back to his norm
Horrible thread! None hate them, but in the current rox-hornets game, your boys Battier and Hayes totally got 4 points in the first 3 quaters!
Hayes and Battier are not NBA starters. Sorry. Love them all you want, but they are bench talent. There's a reason they don't have big contracts, like, say, Rudy Gay will get. I really have a much bigger problem with Battier than Hayes, though. If Tmac's on this team, he really should be playing the three, with Battier on the bench or preferably, traded.
Hayes and Battier should not be on the floor together anymore, offense stagnates and is too predictable with them together, cause other team don't really have to respect them when defending the Rockets. I'm leaning more and more to Scola starting just so we won't have 2 negatives on the offense at the same time
Today's stats against the NO Hornets: Rafer 4-13 Head 4-11 Hayes 1-2 Shane 1-4 Our starters besides Yao suck against good teams, Period. I would rather have Brooks and Scola start.
