I am in the market for one, I basically need a device that can handle both audio and video files. In terms of formats, I would like a device that can handle more than just mp3's and wma's, I would like one that can also play .avi (divx) and .ram (real audio) files. Capacity should be in the 20GB+ range because I don't plan on buying a new one for years, or at least until this one breaks down.

I know we have a number of gadget freaks here, so I figured this would be a good place to start...

I don't know about Real Audio files but a lot of players can handle .ogg and .avi. Another thing you should take into consideration is battery life, as video playing can sap a lot of juice. Archos generally makes versatile and solid PMPs (portable media players), so I'd suggest taking a look at their current library.

anythingbutipod.com has some good reviews and a lively forum that can probably be of more help.

Hmm I haven't tried, but off the top of my head I don't think it will...I use a program called Super that converts all my music and video files. It might be able to convert Real to wmvs or mp3s.
