Excellent. Sam Cassell is the best comparison IMO. Some guys just have a knack for getting their shot off. I believe, much like Sam, Scola will be more effective than most NBA players as he ages because he does not rely on pure athleticism to play his game.
As for Scola, yeah he moves sorta flatfooted and still gets his shot off. You know who he reminds me of? He moves sorta like Larry Bird.
for what i can recall, les spent ~$1 mil. and bought the 31st pick from another team. landry was the 1st overall pick - in the 2nd round. i think it's just one game, and a blowout one; so there was no pressure. everyone wanted to show what they got. i believe landry (along with brooks) can be very good, but we need more time to see. notice how brooks had a so-so game tonight. let's put off the boozer/iverson comparisons for now.
true. but the release of his jumper is real quick and should be a + in the long run. and when he drives, he always sticks his off arm out to protect the ball and get the angle, but not enough for the refs to call an offensive foul.
Absolutely!!! Landry (CARL) is the missing part that the Rockets needed. Now we can only hope that Coach A takes the appropriate action to develop him. PLAYOFFS BABY!!!!!
My wife & I go back to the Oxford/Otterbein/Pine Village area to visit friends and relatives in July & August. If you're there then maybe we could get together for a cup or a brew. I'd much rather talk about the Rockets than the mighty Pacers when I'm on vacation!!!
I love these "the answer is..." threads. Where is "And the answer is Steve Novak" thread or "And the answer is Kirk Snyder" thread? Oh, I forget we already had "Novak is Peja" thread. LOL!
What nobody seems to know.... 1) It's one game 2) It's the worst team in the league 3) It's the scrubs of the worst team in the league in a 30pt ass-kicking I would think he did this in 7 straight games, all against playoff teams. Yea he's good, but he still has to earn his spot. At best, he can up his trade value. But lets stop having knee-jerk reactions, as they can lead to http://www.nba.com/playerfile/brian_cardinal/bio.html
True. Fat Boy Smith took him to the lip about 3 times in a row and got the layin. Carl contested but Smith just bumped him down for the position and laid it in. Carl has got to figure out how to get a stronger base defensively without giving up the hops. If he can do that, he can be a real difference maker. But, right now, Hayes is the interior post up defender on this team and Hayes is one of the premier post defenders in this league. The best play that opponents have against him is when they can shoot the 15-17 footer facing up because Chuck has to give up just a little bit of space for the potential dribble drive and he is not long enough to contest the shot. I did see Laundry working on his 3 shot a couple times when the media was down there doing interviews after practice. I would imagine he is really working hard on it. If he is, and he becomes proficient, it would be interesting to see how he defends SFs from the perimeter. I really don't think he's a true SF. But if he can run, dunk, shoot the 3, and becomes more effective in the interior, I believe he could be a great weapon against teams like Phoenix that don't have huge post up offensive players. I was impressed with him last night. I guess mostly impressed because it is becoming he is a worker in the mold of Hayes, a guy constantly willing to put in the long hours....and it showed on the court last night. However, we were playing a high school jv game last night. Minny brought NUTHING.
Your spot on, Carls finally getting his explosiveness back and remember he was the 5th best athlete at the combines and probably the best overall PF athlete in the 2007 draft. The rockets are stacked at the 4 spot now.
People said what about Aaron Brooks? We barely saw the guy before he was sent down to the D league. Fortunately he got the chance to come back and fight for minutes. I don't think there was ever any doubt of his quickness or his shot. He's never going to be a physical defensive player (ie. Allen Iverson), but I think everyone would agree that no one had a clue how Brooks would pan out, simply because he never really got minutes. When he did start getting them, they came in bunches. In fact, the jury is really still out as to what he will become in this league. So far, so good. Landry is far from being the next Rocket-wonder. He has a long way to go before he gets to even the status that Aaron Brooks is now at. I liked what I saw last night, against crappy competition. Show me some good performances against legit competition (ie. any team in the Western Conference playoff race) and then we'll talk.
everyone take a chill pill. they beat up on the TWolves........who worrell correctly categorized their head coach as "he gets them to play hard, which is all he can do without any talent"
Excellent point. Novak's shot is a thing of beauty. Nine points in eight minutes on 50% shooting -- not bad, Mr. Threefer Novak.
I don't think Davis' fat butt can dunk the ball. Did you guys see that last Celtics game when Baby had a good game? Lot's of layups where you'd expect to see a dunk. In fact, I hereby decree that, on this BBS, Glen Davis shall heretofor be referred to as "Jenny Craig".
