I'm not sure how much I agree with the article since lots of other teams have also played the Kings without Webber, Rockets without Francis, Nuggets without McDyess, etc...but the ending is funny.

-- The SuperSonics have been both jinxed and blessed. Either way, there is a nagging doubt about the Sonics' solid record.

In their first 31 games, the Sonics have played 11 teams that were missing their superstars. It started in the season opener against Sacramento, when the Kings were without Chris Webber. Since, they have played the Heat without Alonzo Mourning, the Nuggets without Antonio McDyess, the Rockets without Steve Francis, the Lakers without Shaquille O'Neal, the Bucks without Glenn
Robinson, the Magic without Tracy McGrady and Grant Hill, the Kings again without Webber, the Pistons without Jerry Stackhouse, the Clippers without Lamar Odom and then Toronto without Vince Carter last Saturday night.

In the games against the Rockets, Milwaukee, Sacramento the second time and Toronto, the player got hurt the day before playing the Sonics. O'Neal and Stackhouse both were ejected in the first half, and McGrady was injured in the first quarter.

"That's part of he game," Sonics coach Nate McMillan said. "They have had us without Vin (Baker), and us without (Desmond) Mason."

Somehow, McMillan was able to keep a straight face at the notion that Vin Baker or Desmond Mason might compare to O'Neal or McGrady, though all four do wear sneakers during games

They got off to a similar start in '99 and failed to make the playoffs. They'll fall back to Earth soon.
