http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20080111/ap_on_sp_bk_ne/bkn_heat_hawks_replay Article Tools Sponsored By By THE ASSOCIATED PRESS Published: January 11, 2008 Filed at 4:52 p.m. ET ATLANTA (AP) -- The Atlanta Hawks and Miami Heat must replay the final 51.9 seconds of their game last month because the NBA said the official scorer ruled incorrectly that Shaquille O'Neal fouled out. This will be the first time since 1982 the league has sent teams back on the court for a replay. The Hawks won 117-111 at home in overtime Dec. 19. The NBA said Friday the replay will be held before the teams' next scheduled game -- March 8 in Atlanta. Play will start from the time after O'Neal's disputed sixth foul. The Hawks also were fined $50,000, with commissioner David Stern ruling the team was ''grossly negligent'' in failing to address the mistake. The protest is the first granted by the NBA since December 1982, when then-NBA commissioner Larry O'Brien upheld a request for a replay by the San Antonio Spurs after their 137-132 double-overtime loss to the Los Angeles Lakers the previous month. The Spurs and Lakers finished the game in April 1983, with San Antonio winning 117-114. **** 1) Why didn't the Heat assistant coaches say anything? 2) What if Shaq is still injured?
BSPN: Heat, Hawks to replay final minute of Dec. 19 game later this year WTH? http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/news/story?id=3192421 ATLANTA -- The Atlanta Hawks and Miami Heat must replay the final 51.9 seconds of their game last month because the NBA said the official scorer ruled incorrectly that Shaquille O'Neal fouled out. Ouch! Is this going to be nationally televised? Are they selling tickets for this 59 seconds? This is the first time I've seen this.
It is going to be a 3 point game with less than a minute left... Nba.com boxscore already has the revised score showing as 114-111 with 51 seconds remaining... http://www.nba.com/games/20071219/scoreboard.html Here is the OT play by play information also: http://www.nba.com/games/20071219/MIAATL/playbyplay.html
Hey redefined you hijacked my post. You were 3 seconds late but viewers reply to you because your is at the top Anyway, I would be really pissed if I were a Hawks' fan. Why would the Hawks have to do it again for something that's not their fault? I'd be really pissed if my team lost, and I'd be really really pissed if they missed the playoff by one game
I've been waiting my whole life for this. Too bad I can't watch the end of this game in person. I was just playing NBA Live a few days ago with a friend and he wants to put in a complaint to EA Sports because he claims he has a valid argument in his losing to me.
The Hawks organization is responsible for the mess up, and the players are part of the organization. It's only fair. Well, ok...who can say that it's truly fair, but it does appear to be the only option that comes close to undoing the mistake.
Lets replay Game 5 when Finley was clearly out of bounds starting at that time. Then, if we win, we are given the series(and Game 7 never existed) and play the Suns in the next round. If we win that series, the Spurs must forfeit their rings because they would have to play us instead of the Suns. Let's go farther back and replay the 98 Finals Game 6. Eisley hit a near halfcourt shot which was released with 2 seconds clearly displaying on the shot clock and it wasn't allowed, yet Ron Harper can shoot after the buzzer sounds on a huge basket. This is a 5pt swing in a game the Jazz lost by 1. Give Game 6 to the Jazz, bring back everyone from those games, and run a Game 7.
Sure the Hawks have their problems. But they are inoncent in this particalur case and is getting screwed over. If they do miss the playoff by 1 game, it would've been their own fault plus the league screw up. Further more, the Heats had their faults too. With all those coach, assitant coaches and stat people at the side line no one knew how many fouls were on Shaq? Come on we are talking about the starting center. It'd be insanely stupid if they were not following Shaq's foul count.
I'm not sure if you get the point here. Those are mistakes by the officials, which Stern will not correct, and shouldn't. It would be a disaster trying to fix all these mistakes. This error was not only inexcusable, but it was brought upon by the Hawks statisticians, who are employees of that team. Thus, the team is punished for the team's mistakes, not the officials. The Hawks players may have a right to be upset, but the organization is to blame for hiring such shoddy employees.
