holy *****ing crap! most of you know i wasn't a big fan of resistance....but this game has me excited. 60 players online.... 8 players CO-OP online!!! DO WANT. i hope they polished up the game and added more destructible objects, variety of enemies, blood, etc. i don't think resistance was bad for a launch game but it wasn't great or as good as most people/media made it out to be.

i hate them on consoles, true, but cod4 has warmed my cold heart a little. the only thing missing from cod4 was online co-op and kb/m support. otherwise, the game was almost perfect. graphics are awesome, single player was never boring, online is loads of fun with their achievements like rewards for leveling up. if the box has a fps equal to cod4, i would definitely buy one for it.

from what i've played, graw = too slow paced and tactical. rainbow six = never really liked the series when i've played a few different versions on the pc. gears of war = friend never let me over his house to play it. he would just tell me it's alright. halo 3 = never played it. i've played halo 1 on the pc and it didn't seem that spectacular to me. reminded me of a watered down version of tribes (awesome fps btw). bioshock = interested in this one because of the unique rpg elements and story, lack of online mode is a bummer.

The first one just didn't feel right to me... not sure what it was about it, specifically, but I just didn't find it fun. Why play Resistance when I can instead play GRAW, Rainbow Six: Vegas, or Gears of War?

That said, I LOVE coop modes in any kind of game, so I'll try to keep an open mind. I have a feeling the new Rainbow Six will be more than enough to occupy me for quite awhile, though.

It was only about ~4 hours long, so I would hope it that it wasn't boring. ;)

That was my largest complaint about COD4. I preferred the gunfights in Resistance more (liked the fictional weapons better I guess), but I couldn't really think highly of the game due to the length (especially since the story was pretty generic). I'm sure the MP stuff was all sorts of awesome though.

It is a pretty good game, different from most of the (console) FPS games on the market. The story is pretty good (for a FPS), although while "unique", the RPG stuff didn't really matter all that much to me (especially since you don't really have to pick among the abilities, you can pretty much use all the useful ones). I would warn that if you didn't like Resistance's enemy variety, you'll probably hate the variety in BioShock. There are basically like 2-3 enemy types with some slight variations among them (compared to the ~10 or so types in Resistance IIRC). The game is pretty long (15-20 hrs at least I think), which is a positive for the most part, although the lack of enemy variety becomes more of an issue because of this IMO.

As for Resistance 2, looks great. Seems like an improvement in all areas over Resistance (especially the lighting), and Resistance already looked decent enough. Feature-list sounds nice I guess. Insomniac is going crazy this generation.

Hmmm. I thought Resistance was great but I'm a big history buff. It was neat seeing what they did with the typical WW2 era fps. Beyond that though, it was still a great game and the ending has kept me excited about the sequel.

It's frustrating that Insomniac has pulled that type of ending in their last 2 titles. Can't believe I have to wait until 2009 for the next R+C game.

That's what I loved about Resistance too. It was such a unique idea by having a WWII shooter against aliens. I can't imagine what the next game is going to be like.

That info is awesome. FPS community has been screaming for splitscreen co-op, especially since Warhawk. Resistance 2 is going to kill.

I'm not that big of a history buff, but I too found that stuff fascinating. Did any of you guys check out the website before playing the game? It provided a backstory for the game, citing events that took place long before the game even took place (think it starts around 1900 or so IIRC). Reading up on these events pretty much sold me on the game.

That does remind me that I hope Insomniac is a little more upfront with the storyline in the sequel. I felt as though a lot of the details to the Resistance storyline were lost in things like the website or the intel documents (some of the which were written with codewords, making it somewhat difficult to interpret at first). I enjoyed piecing together the details from these different sources of info, but I'm thinking others might miss out on a lot if they failed to pursue that information.

BTW, I want to clarify that there are 2 campaigns for Resistance 2. I'm assuming one is the normal singleplayer campaign, while the other is the 8-player co-op campaign. Not sure this was clear in the initial info reported from the magazine.

took me around 8-9 hours to complete cod4. i made the mistake of playing the regular difficulty when i'm a newbie in console fps. the story reminded me of the movie black hawk down, which was a pretty good movie.

i wonder what happened to tribes? that was a freaking awesome fps (ahead of it's time). they had 3 armor classes, tons of unique weapons, bases to infiltrate, vehicles and jet packs. i remember skiing down a cliff to get momentum for a huge leap (i dont think any other fps has this feature). me and my friends would play tribes + tribes 2 24/7, then the game just disappeared.

I think I went with one of the easier modes (screwed up on the obstacle course, and just went with the setting the game picked), but I'm not sure I could have completed the game if it took me 8+ hours. I felt as thought I died (or screwed up) enough as it was in the ~4 hours it took me to beat it.

I don't think I've seen Black Hawk Down unfortunately. I thought the story (in COD4) was OK I guess, although somewhat predictable and simple (w/o even playing the game, I kind of guessed what the general idea was). It was executed fairly well though, and I'd probably be happy if the annual COD games were of the same caliber; on the other hand, I don't think it would really compare well to the better FPSs that take 2-3 years to make (like Resistance for example). Of course, now that I think about it, there probably aren't too many games in this category. :(

I vaguely remember playing Tribes. I couldn't play online, although I might have played a few LAN games with some friends. I do remember some of the gameplay mechanics you mentioned and having fun with them (even if there was no one else to play with). I think they were part of Sierra and got closed down. Wikipedia says that some of the employees formed another company called GarageGames.

The Goliath battles seem like they may be pretty intense.

We might get an update on the GI website soon, although I don't know if it will be anything new.

I can't wait. 8 player online co-op alone really sold me. That was huge. I never touched single-player anyways. But these additions to the story mode are really exciting. Lots of potential with those bosses. I wonder how amped up the graphics will be considering how amazing part 1 looked as a launch title. Never been this excited for FPS in my life.

These were apparently leaked by "surfer girl" (who I'll get to later). They contain things like a rough storyboard for the game, so do note the spoilers (not just spoiler tagging these because their pictures):

For those that don't know who surfer girl is, she has a blog where she posts various rumors. She did post some rumors about Resistance 2 a while back, and it seems they were more or less true (also seems to be the case for other rumors she posted). I'm guessing that she does indeed have some inside sources (at least at Insomniac/SCEA), so I don't know if there is much to doubt here (although it might be early enough that Insomniac will make changes). I'm debating about posting rumors from her in the near-future since some of her rumors are pretty interesting.

BTW, Insomniac will have their weekly podcast tomorrow, and I believe they'll talk a little bit about Resistance 2. This will include clearing up some misconceptions based on the news that broke out from the scans, which can sometimes lead to inaccurate info. For example, it seems like the coop campaign will use MP maps and that these missions are the ones that will contain randomized geometry.

Whats Surfergirl's website? I am too lazy to Google it.

You better get it Chow, I don't think we have ever played against each other in anything.
