What scares the bejesus out of me regarding this proposed wanton act of stupidity is this: It's the same Morey-led Rockets management team who gave us Shane Battier for Rudy Gay and Stromile Swift.
Who on the Rockets team indicated they stated TMac out? Enlighten us with some examples you posted from this guy and have been RIGHT?
Why would they even consider Marbury though? Wouldn't they try for a guy with more talent or a shorter contract? Like someone who expires THIS YEAR... Jermaine O'neal? or Andre Iguodala? Shawn Marion? Artest? Jamison? We're totally getting shafted in this [proposed] deal. Like I said, I wouldn't be surprised if NY management let these 'talks' leak so that some other team they're trying to dump Marbury on jumps the gun.
No! At least Shane has some redeeming qualities like being smart, a model citizen and a team player. He can't help that he is an average SF at best. Marbury, on the other hand, has been a cancer on every team with which he has played -- way, way more selfish than T-Mc.
http://bbs.clutchfans.net/showthread.php?t=33688 Almu apparently a fan of Mike and the Mad Dog.... Hmmm......
If something like this actually goes down, then Les Alexander would be the biggest idiot in the franchise history. An owner who want's to win now, but run like the Phoenix Suns and make all the money in the world with Yao and Marbury.
So what makes you think the Rockets would sacrifice their short term (this year, and next) and acquire a $20 million/year cancer? Every single transaction made in the last couple years was geared towards winning in the short term, not long term (including the Battier deal). I'm not saying that there weren't talks. If the Knicks were to include an unprotected 1st round pick, then we have a realistic shot at the number 1 pick. If the Rockets somehow nab a Michael Beasley and free up $23 million from their payroll in 09/10, this could end up looking like a great trade a couple years from now.
What is really wierd in all this fiasco about Mac is if he still wants to be in Houston why has he never stated that these trade rumours are uncalled for and that he wants to be in Houston for the rest of his career. I am thinking this guy truly wants out now and if that is the case I feel even worst since it is most likely he is faking injury, sigh such drama on this team. If he wants out take Mike james, SF with him and let the team have peace. all of these news about how unhappy he is is gaining more momentum now from various sources, so there must be some underlying truth to all of this. T-mac you dissapoint, you are pulling an Orlando on us . . .
Well..... I'm disappointed that a vet made this thread. Deal doesn't make sense no matter how you look at it. If the Rockets front office is really looking for cap room, that's fine if there was a big name free agent next year. I'm not talking marginal talent. I'm talking someone at least on McGrady's level preferably higher. Wade/Pierce/Nash/Kobe or a front court player along the lines of Gasol/Warrick/Brand. Something along those lines. Maybe even signing Richard Jefferson for maybe 3/4's (realisticly, that is what you would have to pay, but hopefully less) what you pay McGrady and then using the rest of the money to sign another marginal player like Trevor Ariza/Sergio Rodriguez/Jose Calderon. The problem is I can't think of any big name free agents next year. Why would they waste a year of Yao's prime waiting for a few years for a big name player to sign? Next, do you believe the same GM that brought in Luis Scola, drafted Aaron Brooks (much to the chagrin of most of this board, including myself), brought in Mike James and Steve Francis for little to nothing (despite how badly they are playing right now, they were good deals) would make that deal? This deal is horrible and Morey has made smart moves thus far. (I put the Rudy Gay fiasco on Carol Dawson at the moment. *shrug* Thabo Sefolosha? Really?) The deal doesn't make sense from any viewpoint. I'm sure you can see that this is a bad deal even though you made the thread. I hope you aren't supporting the deal at the very least. Hope you are just the messenger.
Trading with NY for their crappy players and albatross contracts is sheer madness. If we're even thinking of trading a possible franchise player, then we better damn well be 1) obtaining multiple picks in return, 2) foisting on them our long role-player contracts (James, Battier, Alston), and 3) getting back shorter contracts. Still, this whole scenario is r****ded, since without T-Mac (or another bona fide star), we have zero shot at a title. Crap. I tried to contact my source for verification of this rumor, but my guy is out of the office.
Short range thinking almost always leads to disaster. Look at the Rudy Gay deal. If the Rockets want to save money by doing something stupid, then trade T-Mc for Chris Webber (expiring $19M contract) + Thaddeus Young of Philadelphia and call it a day. At least we would get a promising, young 6-8 SF + cap space out of the deal.
Ok I just got some confirmation that the Knicks indeed CAN'T trade their first round pick this year. So with that said, what the heck are the Knicks going to give us to make this a deal worth making?
I don't see the PG position as being a critical issue right now with the Rockets, and I don't see Marbury as a huge upgrade. If there's a third team involved, maybe. Who's desperate for a point guard right now?
