Sooooo I was driving today and pulled up at a red light and noticed a homeless person standing there with a sign. I read the sign and it said "visions of a cheeseburger." I actually gave him a couple bucks because the sign was so funny. Much better than the "disabled veteran need money" or other. Anybody else seen any cool/funny signs?
I've seen that before. There used to be this man at the southeast corner of Airport and IH-35 who would put on a "slide-show" of cardboard signs. He cracked me up - and he's the only person I've ever given money to.
"Need Food to Feed My Starving Family" man I was LOLing all they way home from the grocery store where I had just purchased several cans of food I had no intention of consuming.
The other weekend, I was driving on the Beltway feeder after dropping my sister off at work and at the Briar Forest/Beltway intersection, there was this tall black man in a really nice suit looking very sharp and standing on the median that seperates the u-turn lane from the left turn lane. He was holding a cardboard sign, but I couldn't read the sign because he was standing on the left side and I was in the right lane, but it was weird. He was obviously inexperienced because the sign was written in pen and not marker. I'm pretty sure it said "Need Help" at the top.
I've seen that same side down here in Austin. You're in Portland right? It's still surprising to me how many panhandlers and homeless people there are up there. Just on the downtown side of the Burnside Bridge there are tons of people on the streets.
I have had that photo outside my door with my face manually pasted on it since about 2000. You might think it's mean, but when I was out drinking with some buddies, I once made a small sign on a napkin that said: "GET A JOB" and held it against the window when a hobo that I knew was going to be at his usual corner came over. I despise beggars. If my illegal Mexican buddies can get a job, so can you, p*to .
Ya this was right at the Canyon road beltway/intersection off of 217. I agree the homeless are rampant. <embed FlashVars='videoId=104428' src='http://southpark.comedycentral.com/sitewide/video_player/view/default/swf.jhtml' quality='high' bgcolor='#cccccc' width='332' height='316' name='comedy_central_player' align='middle' allowScriptAccess='always' allownetworking='external' type='application/x-shockwave-flash' pluginspage='http://www.macromedia.com/go/getflashplayer'></embed>
This guy is still out there with that sign. 610 and Shepherd/Durham intersections was the last place I saw him.
i once saw a guy, his wife, and two children at the corner of Almeda Genoa and I-45. one of the saddest things i've seen in my life.
I asked my dad one time why we never see Indian or Asian people with a sign asking for money. He told me that is because they are hard working people and would rather work for a few dollars than to sit around begging for money. If you can hold a sign you hand hold a shovel or a rake. My dad has always been the mother f'ing man when it comes to the real world. In Austin i did see one Homeless Asian guy on 6th street often. but He had mental problems... sadly like most real homeless people.
Something like 30% of homeless people are mentally r****ded. An even greater percentage of homeless people are alcohol or drug-dependent, with little or no means to attack the problem.
