Rice's contract is small and short compared to what they signed Jones and Grant to. I don't think the Heat are sold on Eddie as a franchise player. He's better as a 3rd option/defensive stopper, which is exactly what he would be here. Kenny just had 26 and 11 on the Heat so his stock might be pretty good with Miami right now.
I don't think we'll trade the Wiz because he's valuable to us for the same reason he'd be valuable to someone else -- his contract ends at the end of this season, giving us salary cap space to play with next year. We need that money not only to sign free agents, but also in the not-so-distant future when we're gonna hafta allocate more money to people like Griffin and Franchise. And why trade KT now when he produces at such a bargain? ... unless you package him with someone who has a big contract ... like Moochie maybe. Sure, or Cato too, but I kinda wanna keep Cato.
We'll have Bird rights to Griffin and Franchise so they don't need to "save up" to re-sign them. Any particular reason you want to keep Cato???
Montgo - I find your comments very interesting. Can you comment on who the Rockets are speaking with regarding KT? Cleveland????
Yeah, quite simply I like his size. He has the body to keep Shaq away from his spots. It seems for the next several years, the road to the championship goes through Los Angeles and (to a lesser extent) San Antonio, so we need a big body down there to throw some weight around. And I still haven't given up on his ability to rebound, play good D and catch a pass down low for an easy 2.
Toast, you are more optimistic about Cato than most folks around here. But a "big body" means nothing if there is no talent or desire to go with it. You could probably get better production just sticking KT or MoT in at center (in fact, didn't the Rockets try MoT at center occasionally last year?) than you could having Cato eat up 25 minutes with 5 points, 2 boards, and 1 block.
Kelvin isn't in the Top 50 in blocks per game or Top 50 in total blocks. there is no excuse for that. He has only 23 blocks in 29 games (27 starts). His added "size" may help a little with Shaq down low but it has robbed him of his quickness and jumping ability.
Stickfigure, In limited starts at center, Mo had decent production and his rebounds were up to ~6.5 for ~ 28min in 11 starts. He had foul problems though. He could play limited time at center each game, but I wouldn't start him there.
Bay Rock: my source, who is close enough to hear get generalities, but not close enough to get daily specifics (though very and always reliable) said he was not specifically aware of who is calling. he only knows that he was told KT is garnering lots of interest and the Rox are listening. Mind you though, even Rudy and CD admit that they always listen to the calls they get.... this information is not surprising, but interesting to know that KT has opened lots of eyes in the league and could be a difference maker for some playoff teams and could allow the Rox some options.
