T-Mac's ego couldn't handle that. And, in any case, he's not an "energy off the bench" type of player, like Manu.

I like our 9 man rotation with McGrady back, especially if Alston and Head can retain their level of play on the offensive end (minus the turnovers, hopefully). I really hope this group can stay healthy through the playoffs.

    PG - Alston
    SG - McGrady
    SF - Battier
    PF - Hayes
    C - Yao
    gf - Wells
    fc - Scola
    sg - Head
    pg - Brooks

Sounds like an idea good enough for a try. Could be the best of both worlds- allowing the offense to get into a flow early on as they seem to MOVE the ball better w/o him (vs iso tracy then find open man without much flow), establish yao early on instead of figuring out which leader is more on to defer to; and that would be a powerful scoring supplement coming off the bench, and still have him as a closer, more fresh.

I like it. TMac can still get 30 minutes a game. The Rockets starting lineup has been successful w/o TMac lately, they establish a flo better. Let Tmac come in with fresh legs just as the other team's starters are beginning to tire.

No, I think start him and Yao together and after a few minuts, let him sit on bench and switch with Yao (like last season, Jeff did). Save his energy on 4th q to close the game for us.

What? You don't think adelman combs the boards each night for ideas? He prefers polls though: "Sorry Tracy, it passed 58%. My hands are tied."

Since we are on this, why don't we just bring Yao off the bench when TMac gets tired and needs a break. The team played well with Yao out last season, they should do better this time with better players. When TMac gets tired, Yao can come in and provide a spark.

How about this... we play two completely different styles.....One with Yao lead one with T-mac... But they never play together....

TMac would also work well in the 3 spot. I think the biggest problem with the Rockets lineup is Battier + Hayes both starting. Either one is fine but together is not good because the scoring will be uneven. The Rockets guards have been pentrating and knocking down shots better lately they have established a rhythmn playing with each other. I would like to see a starting lineup of:

    Alston
    Brooks/Head
    McGrady
    Hayes
    Yao

    bench: Scola, Battier, Bonzi

Its the same basic 9 man rotation just re-shuffled a bit. Battier goes to the bench because Chuck's defensive presence is probably more important. This offense could work well with Adleman's offense, as long as Tracy can be persuaded to play defense.

If Tmac even lets the team experiment with that then sure...

    Lock it!

teams don't really bring their "best player" off the bench you know, neither do teams bring their "leader" off the bench, doesn't it sound funny whe we can all tell our friends: hey you know what, our team rocks so much that we bring our "leader" off the bench! don't u think he's cool?

To an extent, something similar was tried at the latter half of last season. Both Yao and McGrady started of course, but throughout the game JVG kept either one or the other in the game at all times. This led to stretches where McGrady-led team played, and then McGrady would rest and a Yao-oriented team would take over. (The role players would overlap but the schemes would be centered around the stars.) To finish off the game, of course, both stars were on the court.

I believe JVG did this because anytime both Yao and Ming were out simultaneously, the entire team went to hell; they just couldn't keep it together. (I remember him saying something to that effect, that he couldn't trust resting both his stars at the same time.) So alternating his stars seemed a reasonable solution, and the outstanding regular season record reflected that.

But I think this led to the role players not ever developing an identity away from Yao and McGrady, of how to look for their own and each others' shots independent of the two stars. And I believe this problem was exposed when the playoffs came and the role players were required to raise their level of play. It also made the Yao-McGrady tandem much less effective.

So to make a long story short, playing McGrady or Yao off the bench ain't a good idea, IMO. :)

"If" bringing T-mac off the bench gives the Rox a better chance at winning games, then I´m all for it.
But, bringing one of your best players off the bench is unpopular. The coach needs guts to do it.
Pop has won several rings with the Spurs, so he has credit to do whatever he wants with the team.
Names should never be more important than the team´s success. No matter how much you pay them. Just my 0.02

this is only if we can get equal value trade for Tmac.

This would be a great waste of money and talent if we split up Yao and Tmac.
You will further draw out the distance and team chemtry. this is no football, where we have two units on a same team. people will start comparing tmac lead team +/- against Yao's.

But if you have to do it then...

there is no way Tmac would come off the bench, however for the better of the team Yao could come off the bench.

    t-mac's team
    alston
    tmac
    battier
    scola
    hayes

    Yao's team
    AB
    head
    wells
    scola
    Yao

obiously some players will be on both teams.

tmac's team can be the jump shooter team with run and gun
Yao can be the slow pace half court motion cutting team.
