I think the problem is that the Rockets do not have an adequate point guard. I don't mean a scoring first point guard; I mean a distributing point guard. The blame should not go to TMac, but rather attributed to the fact that though the Rocket's backcourt is loaded with "talent," they all stink at passing. We should look into trading for Kidd, maybe for a two first rounds, Brooks, Head, and Wells. Actually, Kidd might come even cheaper than that. Thoughts?
First, I doubt New Jersey would accept that deal. Second, I doubt the salaries would match. Finally, if I were the Rockets, I would ONLY make that deal if I felt like adding Jason Kidd guarantees that we will win an NBA championship in the next two years. Jason Kidd is entirely too old to count on as a factor for much longer than that. Further, I would only do that deal if I felt like the current Rockets had absolutely no hope of winning a championship in the coming years otherwise. Giving up Brooks + two first rounders is giving up three first rounders. The Rockets can't afford to do that unless we're already capable of winning a championship. Otherwise, those picks are key building blocks for us to work with. We only have draft picks and an MLE to strengthen this team with.
The chance of winning anything is very small if a PG can not shoot even people like to talk about pure PG on paper. No to Kidd.
Thought: You haven't understood the basics of how trades in the NBA work, regarding matching salaries.
Alston is currently shooting at .399 FG% - his highest since Alston with the Rockets and 2nd best in his career. If Alston can keep his FG% around 40%, the Rockets are doing okay in PG.
agreed. I think the proof will be how many games the Rockets can win w/o Tmac. I hate Rafer, he's been a picturesque point guard. He scores, he dribble penetrates, he really pushes these guys to perform at their best. Rafer isn't my number one choice, but he's been nothin' but great. Tmac, can't dribble penetrate, Tmac doesn't play well as a guard, he can score, more emphasis on can. Just because he can score 13 points in 35 seconds doesn't mean he will. That doesn't mean he doesn't fit, it just means we need to retool the team around its limitations. How many Tmac lovers/fans would still want him on this team had he not scored the miracle on hardwood floor? I like Tmac a lot, but if not for the game, I can't say I've felt he's the "answer". He's more of a gear in a working system.
yeah, and that was pretty much it. more often than not Tmac settles for the jump shot. maybe thats why we did so well those games, of course, you already knew that.
not j kidd the one to go after is richard jefferson they were shopping him this summer maybe they still want to move him
Kidd isn't an upgrade from what we have and dealing 2 1st rounders had better be for someone in the top 10 in scoring.
Marc Stein from ESPN said that the Rockets and Bulls had indeed a little talk about Tracy McGrady. He also said that the Rockets "might have to shake things up" because it doesn't appear that the other teams in the playoff race will let up.
Hinrich, Deng, Gordon, Noah, & 2008 1st round draft pick for McGrady & Landry (via minimum salary exception) + Smith & cash considerations for Hayes, Francis, Snyder, Novak & 2nd round pick + Re-sign Mike Harris All of the above or no deal. A trade with the Bulls is risky cause Deng and Gordon could leave after this season. So Rockets could be more or less trading McGrady for Hinrich, Noah, and a pick.
^ pipe dream cuz that would pretty much leave Chicago with only Mac, Noci, and Wallace. lol I think Gordon, Hinrich, Smith, and 1st rounder sounds a bit more plausible. Hopefully we can get Memphis in on the act and somehow fanangle Mike miller out of all of this.
