Well someone finally did it, built a zero emmissions fuel cell car, and not so shcockingly it is Honda.

And to top it off they are designing a home recharge kit that will allow you to simply refill your car at home.

I truly hope this is the start of something big, and our movement away from Oil companies.

So how do we produce hydrogen economically? I don't know the process real well except it requires using electricity which has to come from somewhere.

You could get it from natural gas

There might be natural process that could produce hydrogen? I am not sure though.

So are you saying that it really is not zero emissions or that we'll still be using oil for something?

If I am not mistaken, the car is made of oil. I am sure it has plastics in it. :D

Exactly. Its not like we have a well of hydrogen laying somewhere. Hydrogen is just another type of energy storage because you have to put just as much energy to produce it as you get out of it.

The only long term answer is solar and nuclear. You produce the energy or collect the energy from one of these sources, store it via a battery or hydrogen, use it in your car.

A question Ive always had about electric cars that you plug in at home.....

Does it cost more in electricity to run these cars then it would if you used Petrol?

That depends on both market gas and electricity prices. The idea is that some day alternative energy sources like solar and wind will be price competitive with petroleum or even cheaper. That combined with the obvious green benefits would make plug in's a no brainer.

I think hydrogen is the most abundant element in the universe. As long as we get away from oil it is good.
