Tonight's game makes me wonder about something-- people complain often about how SB does not rack up massive stats. Tonight, we had an opponent in ZR who racked up massive stats, particularly with rebounds, which no doubt contributed to keeping hi team in the game (rebounding and getting some decent/lucky 3 pointers from NR and company seemed to by the only thing that NYK did well). On the other hand, he made plenty of critical mistakes and was clearly a defensive weak link. On the other hand, SB had a tough shooting night and ended up with few points. But he did rebound some and moved the ball well. The guy also did a good job on D-- particularly help D since the Knicks wing rotation are pretty weak. Their scoring come from the bigs or the smalls. So, bottomline: If you were DM or RA, would you pull the trigger on a trade sending SB (along with the inactive SF and MJ) to NYK for ZR? The salaries match and ZR definitely racks up big the numbers with both scoring and rebound. The Rockets would then presumably get BW and ZR to play more of minutes formerly played by SB and CH. BW and ZR rack up stats, SB and CH generally don't. Does it make the Rockets better?
In a heartbeat. Randolph is an All-Star caliber player. Btw...you can say their name at least once in the thread to make it a bit more obvious instead of using initials.
I don't know CH, SB seems to fit the Rockets better, plus if we have ZR then it clogs up the paint, espcially if Yao is on the court as well, and I don't think TM can stand just throwing the ball into the paint and never getting the ball back, especially to two players. Trading for ZR might also hinder the development of LS and having 3 PFs would be too much (although admittedly that's what most people said about the PG in the offseason).
Hell no. Zach Randolph is example #1 of how stats do not necessarily make a team better. He doesn't hustle or drive much, he's been described as a "black hole" on offense, and his defense is suspect. When you score 20/10 (one of four guys in the league to do so) and you are traded expressly because of chemistry issues, then there is something wrong. Now, Zach Randolph isn't Shareef Abdul-Rahim, but Randolph would definitely bog down the Rockets on offense, and take little pressure off of Yao on defense.
Randolph is the exact opposite of Battier. While Battier doesn't have good stat lines a lot of the time, Randolph will usually have a good stat line despite his team always losing. Remember what JVG says, beware of players with good stats on crappy teams, somebody is going to have to get those stats, just because he gets them doesn't mean hes a good player. Theres a reason why portland got rid of him, and do you think its a coincidence they're winning now without him. I consider him like Steve Francis, just has that culture of losing, he just doesn't know what it takes to win.
Zach Randolph is a big negative any team. Why else would Portland give him to the Knicks in exchange for paying Steve Francis $33 million to not show up? The Blazers are better this year because Z-Bo is gone. If his salary was the vet minimum and we could get him for nothing, I wouldn't want Zach Randolph on the Rockets. Forget his stats. The guy kills chemistry like an assassin.
Hell No!! Zach Randolph does not help any team. He usually has good stats but his stats have zero impact on the outcome of a game. One of the main reasons that Portland improved so much this year is because they got rid of him and his black-hole game.
Imagine if the team actually traded for Ron Aartest as rumors had the Rockets contemplating in the offseason. Coach RA, Tru Warrier RA, and Skip to My RA all on the same team? RA Mania!!
This is one of those times when that oft-cliched phrase "addition by subtraction" is most appropriate. Portland minus Randolph = winning team. NYK plus Randolph = garbage. This is a no-brainer.
..... Why would you start this thread? Besides, there is a reason the Trailblazers became a better team when he left.
I can't believe people are seriously responding to this post. Van Gundier, as he is known to do in defending the Rudy Gay trade, is purposely creating another false dichotomy to show what he perceives to be Shane Battier's value to this team. You don't have to be a bone-headed, selfish, lockerroom cancer like Zeebo to be the anti-Battier in showing tangible output on the court.
No no no...no..no...no..no..no. no...no.........no...no...no...no...no..no.no..no.no.no. He doesn't fit. DD
