Has anybody ever heard that radio commercial in which...

Moochie says "I'm Moochie Norris...you think you got the ball? Hehe...not anymore"...

Cat says something like "I'm Cuttino Mobley...think you can catch me? Think again"...

Kenny Thomas says "I'm Kenny Thomas and the boards belong to me"...

and, the one I like most...

Eddie says "I'm Eddie Griffin...I may be young - BUT I AM READY!"

You can hear it if you listen to Rockets games on NBA audio league pass...I am sure they feature it elsewhere, so this might be old for you...but I really like hearing it :).

One question...it sounded like none of them were speaking "ebonics"...can anybody tell me which Rockets speak really "heavy" "ebonics" and which ones speak the most "proper" English? Just curious...

I just want to know how long you spent looking over your post for spelling errors before hitting the submit button.

What kind of crap is this? How about we put them all in a darkened room and guess which one has the darkest skin.

What's wrong with wanting to know who has the best speaking voice?

I know several people who hate basketball, and throw in plenty of comments relating to "gangsta-this" and "gangsta-that," and talking about how "none of them even know how to speak properly." They all point to Allen Iverson and people like him who speak a particular way, and they completely ignore classy players with more mastery of the english lagnuage like Clyde Drexler, Reggie Miller, etc. Hell, even Hakeem can speak better than many people, not just NBA players.

I love throwing classy players in their faces simply because it is at that point where they obviously don't know what they are talking about.

I did not mean to make any racial statement at all. I was just curious as to the way they talk. It might not have any relevance to anything, I was just curious. I apologize if it could be misunderstood in an offensive way.

You're from Germany, right? If so, than I can see how you made an mistake: Ebonics refers to a heavy slang used by (mostly) black Americans. There was a movement to make it (disgustingly so, imo) an offical language here in one form or another. It involves heavy slang.

I really can't think of any NBA players who speak this way. Of course, everyone uses slang in one form or another, but just because some black members of the Houston Rockets use slang doesn't mean any of them use Ebonics. They all have at least some university education, and for the most part they're all pretty well-spoken, imo.

The fact that spot sounds scripted to within an inch of its life might have something to do with its "straightforward" nature.

I actually knew that Ebonics is considered a slang by some and that it is primarily used by African-Americans and I believe that that movement to make it an "official language" was actually already going on in 1996 when I was in Houston (btw, I lived very close to TSU). Wasn't the controversy even about teaching it in high school or something like that??

But yes, it was probably wrong to refer specifically to Ebonics, I wasn't thinking about something specific to a particular race, but about slang. As I said, I did not mean it in a racial context at all.

I was just curious if Rockets players use slang, if they sound like "gangstas" (and, who knows, theoretically perhaps Langhi could sound like that, too, look at Eminem, so I did not mean it in a racial way) or if they sound more classy, like someone like Clyde Drexler, who you mentioned as an example.

That was all...I was just curious who speaks "properly" and who speaks "slang". No big deal, I think.

I'm sure a good deal of the Rockets use ebonics fluently, except for Langhi & Collier & maybe Willis.

Aww come on that's not a racist question.

Dan Langhi uses ebonics a lot. -it's true!-
Moochie says stuff like "We was goin' to do that." (Not too bad)
Steve and Cuttino use good grammar.
KW uses such good English it's annoying.
Glen Rice uses pretty good grammar.
    Eddie...well, y'all have heard him.
I don't know about Tmo...he sounds kind of muffled. hehe.
    Oscar-hey, don't ask me. I'm a French-speaking man, not Espanol.
