Anyone going up there this year? A group of us are heading up there from 2/1 - 2/3. Has it changed at all since the Hurricane? I'm planning on the following:

    sluts
    hurricanes
    green grenades
    The Cat's Meow
    beignets at Cafe Du Monde
    jambalaya
    crawfish etouffee

I was there this past Halloween (actually the weekend prior) and again in November.

    It was packed. Non-stop partying.

was there 1 time, pre-Katrina...plenty of grenades. We stayed @ the Borboun Orleans which is across the street from the Tropical Isle and Johnny Whites.

We went to Johnny Whites at about 11am, and watched "Pooty Tang" and got hammered. I walked out around 1pm, and was destroyed. Took a nap until 6, and went back out.

We had a balcony that overlooked Borboun. What a great trip.

They're everywhere. My tip is to have unique beads...it's great bait.

I went there over the summer for a bachelor party. I have never been before, so I can't say how good/safe it was before...but I can tell you that I didn't feel safe enough to go off of Burboun street at all.

I saw two cops the entire time that I was there, and plenty of thugs standing around scoping people out. I'm pretty street smart and not prone to paranoia. At one point I was in a shop on Burbon buying a beer and these two local kids ran up and stood behind me in line. As soon as I flipped out my wallet and they saw what was in it (no cash), they ran back to the corner across the street where some older thug-types were standing.

I was in the same shop the next day and the store keeper (Indian I think) looked totally out of it. My buddy asked him if he had drank too much the night before and he started telling us about how he had been robbed at gunpoint the day before at 10 AM in the day. He was still in shock, obviously.

We had a blast though- I'm not saying that you can't have fun there, but there are predators everywhere, and from what I understand, the police force isn't what it used to be. I'm sure they will bring in outside cops, too. The food is great and it looked like there were plenty of sluts- one of the guys in our party got laid.

Yeah it's crazy. You see it on GGW and you're like no way that can't be real...oh hell yeah it is...or was pre Katrina!

Right, I haven't been in 5 years, but it's good to hear that NO is back in full form. I'm probably going load up on some of those cooler beads ahead of time.

I wouldn't waste your money on beads. Just catch them off of the floats at the parades. I, nor any of my friends ever bought beads when I lived in NOLA.

No, you shouldn't have anything to worry about. Just don't go into areas you shouldn't be in alone. If you stick to the French Quarter, CBD, Uptown, and the Garden District you should fine.

I've been the last five or six years, and I love it. This year might be the last for a while (I'll be 41 next year....and a first time daddy). Great fun. I don't get too trashed, and I really only hang out on Bourbon street on Mardi Gras day......the rest of the time I'm either in some of the greatest restaurants in the South or with the families in front of the parades. My favorite time of year........

You've got to try the po-boys at Johnny's Po-Boys in the French Quarter. The experience completely ruined any other po-boy I'll ever eat from now on.

    It was that good. :)

Is Mardi Gras going on that early? We're trying to go for a friend's bachelor party from 2/2 to 2/4. Is the Doubletree close and safe enough to walk places?
