Morey did a fantastic job this off season. Dont forget one thing, Morey didnt hire the coach, Alexander did. He essentially gave a rotation big, Scola, for Spanoullis. He traded a completely useless Juwon Howard for Mike James. I dont care what kind of slump James is in right now, he is a much more viable option off of the bench than Howard ever was here. Bonzi Wells is back. He also made a super low risk, high reward deal with Steve Francis. I do have particular issues with JVG, but this team would atleast 20-12 with JVG coaching.
Exactly. Buying championships in the NBA is a very difficult thing to accomplish. It is an incredibly expensive, risky and short-sighted approach to managing a franchise. Cuban was able to buy a winning product but he is the most unusual of NBA owners. How many other teams/owners can you name that are willing to pay over $20 million per year for multiple years to a player on another team? There are a few, but not many such cases. Meanwhile, the Knicks have failed miserably and created a total mess with their wild spending habits. Led by Mr. Alexander, the Rockets have made similar mistakes to the Knicks, just more quietly and over a even longer period of time. They spent too much money on the wrong players while making arguably the worst collection of draft day decisions over the past decade. There is no doubt that Les has shown a relative willingness to spend money over the years. Unfortunately, he has more than negated those efforts with all the bad draft picks and contracts. In the end, even a willing spender like Les is unable to buy this organization out of its current state. I don't have a problem with Les' spending habits, although I would be surprised to see him continue funneling money into this team in the near future if he is truly having the reported financial troubles with First Marblehead. He may even sell the team given his disappointing returns on and off the court. What I do have a definite problem with is Les making basketball decisions, e.g. influencing draft picks, forcing his hand in trades, interfering with coaching decisions, persuading the NBA to use synthetic balls that the players largely hated. He simply does not have the experience or aptitude to make these decisions. Les Alexander, the high-spending owner, is not a problem. Les Alexander, the basketball decision-making, high-spending owner IS a problem.
I never had Les or upper management out of the radar scope. As we've seen with the Houston Texans, front office decisions very much affect team performance. The Clippers have had one constant through all their pitiful years, the owner and GM. Different sport again, but the Detroit Lions & Arizona Cardinals have had one constant - their owners. Les got it right with Yao, McGrady and Van Gundy. Then proceeded to think business again with Phoenix-like court designs and Phoenix-like coach hiring.
i still don't see a travesty like so many of yall. maybe cause i'm such a hard-core fan who enjoys the game, i don't know, but i still have high expectations for this season unlike many of yall. so we're 3 games from .500, boo hoo. should we have stayed with ban gundy who would have led us to 45-50 wins and a first round exit? or did we do the right thing bringing in adelman who can change everything about the team for the better. sorry it's a painful process to you guys that change does not happen overnight, and no one even really knows whats going on with the team and if they really are getting it or not, except the players of coarse. you guys are about as bad as the media. for the last several games, this team has definitely had different attitude. it definitely does infact look like things are beginning to look up. we still have all the potential in the world with this team. it was said before the season started, that it would take time for the changes to take effect, said to be around the all-start break. we are still quite far from all-star break, yet... still same bunch of rotting flakes spamming these forums up with negative bs after every single loss, even if it's from a team who has an 8 to 1 win rato - at their home, and w still almost won it. yada yada yada. jvg hooba hooba hooba. RA RA RA!! blah blah blah LA tuda tuda tuda trade tmac scola scola scola trade this player and that player blah blah blah blah blah blah blah giseplsequitalknguntlaftrtehalstrbrk, kthnks.
It took a real genius to get that pick right! Upon further examination of that draft... 2nd pick - Jay Williams 3rd pick - Mike Dunleavy Jr. Dan Dickau was a 1st round pick! 2002 was one of the weakest draft years in recent history. http://www.nbadraft.net/2002.htm The most amazing thing about the 2002 draft was Carlos Boozer slipping to the 2nd round (35th pick overall)!
I think it's easier said than done whenit comes to developing a good team with a good bench because sometimes money is not enough alone. There are regulations involved which prevent a rich owner to develop a superstars team. Look at the Knicks. The Knicks have tons of money but cannot gathered a decent team for years. If money alone can do it, the Knicks would been a team of superstars.
