that's a pretty stupid evaluation. You know you are in trouble when your last bowl win was in the Galleryfurniture.com Bowl and you only have 2 bowl wins in 12 seasons.

UT was still in a good bowl this year. The Holiday bowl is the SEC's Cotton Bowl and we embarrassed the conference's "co-champion". How is that a start of a demise? If any other team in texas had this year, the board would be exploding with luv. I aint asking for that for Texas but if you are going to hate, be a little bit more intelligent about it.

Mack has won at least 9 games in each of his last 11 seasons dating back to his days at North Carolina. He transformed a loser NC program into a top 25 team that finished in the top 10 in his final 2 years. I don't think I need to rehash everything he has done at Texas. Why don't you explain to everyone, in detail, what makes mack a bad coach? Explain why his teams do well in spite of his presence? Yea, VY was there but even the best coaches don't win national championships without great players. Ask Phil Jackson about that.

I applaud your effort of trying to make a logical argument with a known UT hater. Its like commissioner Gordon trying to rationalize with the Joker.

How about recruiting criminals and not controlling them once they make it on campus?

Brando needs to familiarize himself with the members of Clutchfans.

he ought to know that if Mack Brown saves your mom from being run over by a car, that you would try to sue him for attempted murder.

Brando might as well buy Meowgi a Vince Young Jersey or tell me that he hates Vernon Maxwell.

Mack's a rotten, terrible coach for not kicking Greg "Epic Fail" Davis to the curb yet. (I'm only semi-kidding, too.)

I'm a CU homer, so you guys don't have to believe me at all on this. Plus, I never thought that CU would be able to compete with UT for recruits like Scott. All of that said, from everything I've heard from people inside the CU program, I'm 99% sure that Scott will be a Buff -- even with the Charles announcement. Now because I'm a Nuggets fan and I'm used to getting kicked in the nuts, I'm not guaranteeing anything. I will say that it's VERY likely he signs with CU on national signing day.

Big Texx is just upset that Major Applewhite would rather be an assistant at a real school than the head coach at Rice.

    Running back’s interest increases

By Alan Trubow | Wednesday, January 2, 2008, 03:07 PM

Darrell Scott, widely considered the top-rated running back in the country, said Wednesday that Texas was one of four teams he’s considering.

What could be the deciding factor on whether the 6-foot-0, 204-pound athlete becomes a Longhorn?

“Really, it’s whether or not Jamaal Charles comes back,” Scott told the Austin American-Statesman prior to the news about Charles declaring for the NFL draft. “It will be big if he leaves. I don’t want to sit out my freshman year. I’m trying to hop in and make some chaos somewhere.”

The rumors are Scott has been Colorado lean, with Texas, Florida and LSU rounding out his four.

But Scott said the weather in Boulder, Colo., could be a factor.

“Man, it’s brutal up there,” he said. “They need to get some indoor facilities. I know it gets cold in Austin, but they just move indoors when that happens. I’m a warm-weather guy, and I really don’t like the cold.”

Scott, who is in San Antonio for the All-American game, said he plans on announcing his commitment on signing day (Feb. 6).

Just enjoy All Hat and No Cattle's show of unit envy any time The University of Texas is mentioned. It is really pretty humorous for her/him to display his shortcummings for all to see.

    On JC.

-Particularly if we get Scott, I don't see a major impact short term. Long term it may even pay off.

-My hunch is he will be a 2nd or 3rd rounder. If he shows really good pass catching skills and some blocking--things I didn't see much at UT, maybe he could crack the 1st. He has blazing speed & some good instincts (will have great combine numbers that intruige some), but I personally don't see him as a workhorse/complete NFL back. I wouldn't mind seeing him go to the Boys to provide a change of pace to a featured Marion Barber (I would also look to Slaton and Felix Jones using a 2nd or 3rd rounder if they turn pro)--after we let Juluis Jones go to some other team who overpays for him this offseason. I'd put him on kick offs too.

Agreed, I could see JC returning kicks in the NFL next year, but even w/ those I imagine they'll be putting him through some mighty rigorous anti-fumbling drills.

He still looks small for an NFL back. I would expect a team would be wise to let him bulk-up another year or two before he assumes a lot of RB duties, but I certainly could be wrong.

And if it swings Scott... no worries.

charles didn't show tons receiving and blocking, but that wasn't exactly his fault. even though he was the best player on the team, they took him out of the game on 3rd down passing situations. that was one of the huge mistakes the coaching staff made this season. any time he was in the game, he did a very good job blocking and was fine as a receiver too though obviously they weren't throwing to him down field. yes there was that one pass that hit his hands and then was intercepted against oklahoma, but that was a pass way over jamaal's head that he had a jump a few feet into the air to just get his hands on. bad play by charles, but you can't blame it all on him.

i personally rank charles as the 2nd best back in this draft only behind mcfadden. he isn't the biggest back, but it's not he's warrick dunn size either. he clearly has amazing speed but he's never been the finesse back people want to pretend he is just because he ran track. and he definitely held back some by the poor play calling of texas. he'd be running well and then they'd just completely go away from him and decided they didn't want him on the field for 3rd downs. how does that make sense? if it's a 3rd and long situation and you're going to run a draw, screen, or have the rb available as a check down receiver wouldn't it make a lot more sense to have a guy in that can actually get the yardage needed instead of a guy that is no threat to really advance the ball at all?

as far as next year, with charles i think texas could have been a championship contender with the right development from other players and decent play calling. with him gone though, it looks like another 10-3 season either without making a bcs bowl game or losing in one. and that's even if they get scott. if they don't get him, i'm still hopeful for 10 wins but that streak could potentially end.

I am not saying it is his fault either. What I am saying is the pros will probably focus on him being a 3rd down/change of pace back and perhaps a return guy--and we really won't have much game action to judge him in that role. Showing very good ball skills and blocking skills in the combine would really help him.

Well, the gap between McFadden and the rest is huge. I think if Kevin Smith declares (say he won't, but it would be foolish for him not to once he gets a $ assessment) is a clear #2.

But I am not ready to say Charles is ahead of other juniors Forte, Jon Stewart, Felix Jones and Mendenhall as pro prospects if they declare. I do like Charles better than Rice (great college runner but slow AND smallish for a pro), Hart (ditto) or Slaton (nearly as speedy as Charles, but I think easier to bring down and less effective between the tackles than JC) as pro prospects.

So I still say late 1st to early 3rd for Charles. JC would have to show a lot of excellent all around skills in the combine (hands, receiving & return instincts, blocking) he wasn't asked to at Texas to crack the 1st.

Kevin Smith has declared (maybe #2 after McFadden). Ray Rice has declared. McFadden of course is a no brainer too. I think Felix Jones and Stewart and Slaton are too. Pretty deep RB group and could probably find some players well out of the 1st round--I think Charles made a bad decision and would have had less comp next year, Beanie Wells and Moreno (RS) would be the best eligible. But if Charles leaving leads to Scott, thanks and goodluck JC.

Not that it's a huge deal either way, but he's throwing up the hook 'em horns, not just hanging out with them.

With Jamaal leaving, I don't see why he would go to CU. It doesn't make sense. At UT, he'll have a bigger stage, a better offense, and a chance at a national title in the next couple of years.

I think we're about even right now(55-45 Texas), but he's taking trips to LSU and Florida...hopefully that doesn't change anything.

I've thrown up the "hook 'em horns" with friends that went to UT and I can't stand you guys. I'm not sure you want to rely on that too much.

All I know is from what I've heard at people at CU. They could be wrong, it wouldn't surprise me. Supposedly, the biggest thing to Scott is family. He has that at CU. If that's it, then game over. All I keep hearing is that not only has Scott committed to CU, he's trying to get other recruits there. If I'm wrong, so be it. I'm just thrilled to be in the chase.

BTW, if you read any Scott interview, you'll notice that he praises the school that's interviewing him the most. On a UT site -- it's UT. On a UF site -- he's a Gator. On CU sites -- he's a Buff. This is a kid that's just having fun with the recruiting process and I don't blame him.

BTW, if I come across as sensitive on this post or any others, ignore it, I'm not meaning to. I just know the CU site I post on has been getting spammed by UT guys lately.

He'll also be able to participate in Mack Brown's organized crime syndicate.

I personally would never throw up a sign of any other college. I threw up a Rice Eagle with some of my buddies when Berkman was up to bat once, but that was only because I see Rice as harmless. That said, you're right...it really doesn't mean a lot, but the same type of things you're saying about Scott and CU are the same type of things coming out of Austin. I don't think we'll really know until he signs. I'm trying to be objective, but, ignoring family, Texas should be his choice if winning in college and getting into the NFL are his goals.

    KingCheetah,

That is a very ignorant post. It is not worthy of any further response.
