The reason was simply obvious. Gambling and corrupt NBA referees was rigging the game. Everytime Yao gets grabbed, pulled, pinched, scratched, you name it, the refs just ignored it! Yao is still great because Yao Power = GREATNESS!!!
I am sure that Yao cant be a leader, he is a chinese,in chinese culture,we have "The nail that sticks up mostly gets hammered down. " People dont like the man who is so stink. So most people want to be same with others. I think this is totally diffierent from American cluture. So if T-mac dont want to be a leader,Yao also cant.
Yez lolz Yaoza mIngZ gratenezz powerz total dominance lulz lulz!!! you will be isoed by us if you don't trade your nonesense for an inknown commodity and consult George Ming about how to react when Sura faints after reading your posts ..
First off, Yao is a great player. Sure, he isn't young Shaq or Duncan status, but anyone who thinks trading away the top center in the league just because he cant score when he is triple teamed needs to sober up. Second, you ALWAYS build around the post. In the past few championships, what is the common denominator? Dominant post players. We've had Duncan, Shaq, Duncan, Rasheed/Ben, Duncan, Shaq, Shaq, Shaq, Duncan for the past 9 years as the centerpiece of the NBA champion's offense. You cannot build around jumpshooters, especially during the playoffs (unless you have Michael Jordan, but Tmac and whoever you could get w/ Yao will hardly amount to a Jordan). Post play wins, simple as that. Now, with that in mind, do you trade away the most dominating post player in the league just because he has some flaws and is in a rut? God no, hes only 27! Id say give him another 4 years before we say that "he was who we thought he was" lol. Now, with that said, we should be looking to build around Yao. We need to mask his weaknesses and give him adequate help on the outside so the opponent cannot double team him without getting punished. Tmac is very good, but good perimeter players are a dime a dozen; you could get at least 3 second tier players for one first tier player like Tmac. With good, scoring role players, Yao can go one-on-one and dominate. So basically, its a question of whether or not we want instant gratification. We could go the Phoenix/GS rout and trade Yao, netting us a bunch of athletic run' n 'gunners, but that will only get us so far. By trading TMac and getting complementary support players for Yao, we actually have hope of getting a championship. Regular season/a few Playoff wins or Championships. Take your pick. But then again, none of this really matters really cuz theres no way in hell the Rockets are gonna trade Yao
After seeing him play for more than 6 years, I don't believe a Yao-led team can go anywhere in today's NBA. He can be a very successful No.2, but no way you can build around him as the only centerpiece. No other super stars in the NBA have such obvious weakness like he does and no other super stars can be naturalized as easily as he can. Today's NBA is setup for perimeter players, the rules require big men to be more mobile, more athletic and be able to play inside and outside. Yao is the opposite of that. It won't work if he is the centerpiece of anything because it will just be too slow.
Actually the top interior defensive team would be the Spurs. What would your definition of top tier? Mine would be top 5 in the league in any given category. Somebody like Marcus Camby,Dwight Howard and Ben Wallace (from a few years ago) would be considered top tier in interior defense. Yao would best be considered 2nd tier in these categories.
Horrible athlete compared to Yi JianLian's athletic abilities. But overall, Tim Duncan is an average athlete with very good and effective fundamental basketball moves. Also, you got it all wrong. Replace Yao with Duncan and San Antonio will have all kinds of Championship Rings each and every season. That's just how great Yao Power is, it's GREATNESS!
Now now, no need to lose your cool when you feel like someone is getting under your skin without even trying. And Yao's powerful greatness is great, but he still have flaws. Just like every great athlete. No need to lose your cool.
Oh give me a damn break! You know nothing about Chinese culture so stop wtih the stereotype! There's different types of people in every culture, stop with the nonsense assumptions!
sigh... no point discussing this further as its clearly a lost cause. Despite evidence to the contrary, Yao really is the greatest player of all time - CLEARLY better then WILT CHAMBERLAIN and the other greats. Its too bad the man is holding him down. To the other gentleman, I look forward to discussing basketball with you in the future. Have a happy new year.
have you ever seen how TD played in the beginning 3,4 years of his career. As he gets older, he doesnt need to play in the way he uesed to, but can still lead his team to the final and get the champ. he will step out when his team needs him, but barely can yao. get so sick about all the crack up about yao like he is the god. yeah, he is a good player and one of the best big guys in the league and has desire to win, but he's just not that good, face the reality
there is no stat for presence and impact. yao can may put up better numbers than duncan but that doesnt mean anything. zach randolph put up better numbers than duncan last year, does that mean hes anywhere near his level in terms of presense or impact on the game ? duncan can get 18 and 9 and be the difference in a game just by being out on the floor. but ultimately, its just going to come down to the surrounding talent. yea we can sit and blame t-mac and yao, but its pieces around them that need to be upgraded. trading either of them would probably be a mistake we'd be regretting for many, many years. if we could add a PG like jason terry, or mo williams.....or a PF like paul milsap......awww a man can dream, can't he ?
Wilt Chamberlain wasn't that great because he was playing against VERY, VERY weak and no power competitions. Wilt is so skinny, he would get run over by Ben Wallace.
Why the hell does this thread only have one star? The OP's point is dead on. If you think you can build a team with Yao as the best player, you are completely delusional.
yet when KG, TD, and Boozer went up against the warriors, they dominated them and won in routes. there is no conspiracy. i dont know what it is with yao, it can't be that hes not strong enough, so i dont know why he is always getting pushed off the block by little guys. whenever yao gets deep position its lights out. unfortunately it doesnt happen all that often.
