If Rice goes on injured reserve, I don't think the Rockets will suffer. In fact, I think the team will benefit in the long run. The young guys need some playing time, and Rice needs significant healing time.

The best think about trading SA for an injured Rice is that both of them aren't in Rocket's uniforms this year. I would rather watch T. Morris learn on the job than watch an out of shape Rice clang 3s.

    HEY JEFF!!!

What was that clause in that Rice signing. Don;t we get a 2nd rounder or something (from Dallas), if Rice was unable to play for a certain amount of time? or something?

I really hope the MRI turns out well tomorrow.

But if it doesn't, does this mean we qualify for another injury exception?

That is a good question. I don't remember what the clause was but I think you are right. I do believe we get some compensation if Rice misses more than X games. Now, X=I don't know and what we get I don't know either, but it is an interesting thought.

I believe it's been posted by others before that such a clause is AGAINST the cba.

but, hmm, could the rockets be the tankers i think they are capable of being ;)

If Rice being out forces Rudy to start Eddie then I think that it will be a good thing.

Rice should be a 6th man at this stage of his career anyway.

I, for one, wouldn't mind him taking the year off, healing up, spending the summer getting in shape and comming back next year ready to play.

I think it was obvious that the guy just wasn't in playing shape. I'd like to believe that it was just the foot thing and the shortened training camp. I really don't see him as a guy who would just let himself fall apart like he seems to have done this offseason, hopefully for mitigating reasons.

It would be great to see the guy come back next year and actually suprise everybody who's main impression was the torpid, rotund simulcrum that we saw on the floor this year. Remember 94, when everybody worked out over the summer and came back a little more buff than the year before, even Kenny Smith? I believe that Rice is from the same mold, and hopefully he'll be willing to put forth the effort to prove everybody wrong, unlike some other Rockets I could name...

BTW, I'm pretty sure that Clutch posted something about the 'additional compensation' being nothing more than cash. Nice, but not great for the team.

His game is offensive alright. Shann Anersn has lost his o, his d, and now his team spirit as well. If he starts to be a cancer in the locker room, look for him to get waived. At least he has a nice paycheck to comfort him.

Btw, is he playing the 2 or the 3 in NY?

Jeff, I do not remember the number of games (situation). But I do recall Mark Cuban getting pissed about having to throw in a 2nd rounder for insurance reasons, before Alexander would signed off. I think Cuban even called it extoration or something.

No offense guys but I think all of you are making a little too big a deal out of this.....Rice was not a presence when he was playing and was it really noticable when he went out. Other than just needing a player to put out on the floor he hasn't offered us anything but a name. So he goes out for the year....big deal!

As far as the Rice for Anderson deal, I didn't want either one. I don't mind guys on this board directing comments at me. I'm a successful black man in America, it takes more than that to get to me. :p

Its cool that someone stepped up and said something though, but those words will never fade me.

You know, leebigez is critical of aspects of the Rockets game. Deservedly so! He is not a cheerleader, but definately has played and has more knowledge of the game than most posters here. Positive or negative, I like to read his posts, because there is actually something to think about and digest.
Sorry, Behad, but none of your posts have ever made me think of anything other than you are a grumpy old man. I doubt you're even as old as me, so you don't get a pass on that one.

Lee, I don't post much, but visit the site a lot. Don't let these snobs get to you. Agree with you or not, I still enjoy reading your posts.

My thoughts exactly. I really enjoy leebigez' straightforward posts as well. I never even viewed them as being negative, but just objective. I respect how other posters may not see his posts in the same light. But the ignore button is there for such situations. Keep telling it like it is Lee.

I enjoy everyone's takes, Leeg included, although I do get tired of him ranting on Rudy....I think he is really Caveman in disquise.

I do not know if the Rockets have insurance in place for Glen Rice-similar to Jason Williams series of injuries in New Jersey- the Nets received prorated insurance cash, based on the number of games lost. For a large contract like Glen Rice has - this would be significant.
