The Rockets continue to project themselves as Yao, TMac, and Battier. I dont get it though. I understand if you dont want to just have Yao and Tmac on your billboards and ads, but why make Battier the third guy. Rafer Alston, Luis Scola, or Bonzi Wells would be a better option. Battier is slightly above average defensively, and one of our worst players offensively. Has zero ability to create his own shot and lives off an inconsistent three pointer. He does hustle though. Still, he doesnt really make himself known on the court. A lot of people probably dont even know who battier is even though he has been a starter since coming to Houston. Not a big deal, and i not tryin to hate on him, but i dont get it. You can not tell me he is the third most important guy on this team.
I believed Battier could be the third main contributor to this team. He has to be brainwashed to dump his mentality of being a role player. I hope he can step up and take over when our top players are off. He has the talent, skill and ability. He should be taking over at times. Currently talent wise, Battier is third in this team though Scola may have more, he is still a rookie.
hey poster, have you seen our other options shoot? agreed that battier isnt that great at creating his own shot but lately since tmac has been out he has started to try and drive the ball. i know its not much but its a start. we lost this game in the fourth quarter, the end. (meaning we beat them 3/4 quarters, k thanks)
Scola is a rookie. Bonzi played 13 minutes last season. And Rafer Alston reached David Carr status WAAAaaay back in 2007.
Battier is just the most marketable player after Tmac and Yao. Battier speaks good english, is a fan favorite, is classy, has made a lot of big buckets during his tenure as a Rocket... it doesn't have much to do with how good of a basketball player he is (imo), it has much more to do with the business aspect.
He plays the third most minutes per game on the team, which would suggest that the coaches feel he's the third most "important". And if it's not Battier, it would have to be Rafer. You'd prefer him up there?
He is a guy that the casual fan can embrace. He doesn't ride on spinners, have his entire upper body covered in tats nor does he have a criminal record. He does have a history of being a great teammate and human being that is active in improving the community. I know he isn't the most exciting guy to watch but he does certainly appear to a certain demographic. I'm glad to have him here even if I wish we didn't have to play him so many minutes. I think his glue is only adhesive for about 20-24 minutes per game.
with a guy whom can play in paint as well as hit 3s I dont think we could ask for more And at the same time he's one of most hard work guys in the team , don't ya think so ? he prove the defense of the whole team during the recent half year I found Hayes was more familiar wtih Shane in the style of defence that's a good news ’cause you can see chuck played really great in last few games
A better question is "why is he here?" To win now? The Rockets have so many glue guys they are "stuck" at .500.
