I know, but Billick's established pedigree, as well as his massive ego, not to mention the fact that he is "a punk, a jerk and a loser" means I have a better chance of becoming the Texans new OC than Billick does.
I don't think Billick is a WCO coordinator. Apparently Kyle Shanahan and Karl Dorrell are the front runners for the OC job
^ agreed w/codell. Brian Billick rode the coat tails of a great season by two HOF receivers, and a should be HOF QB, into the Ravens job, then he managed to construct 8 years worth of woeful offense. He rode pre-assembled defense and a bunch of lucky bounces to a superbowl, where the ravens, and their two felonious lewises, jamal & ray, got the pleasure of playing a mediocre giants team that was one of the worst NFC champions ever, IMO. The funny part is that he basically succeeded in spite of himself and his ego. Most of his moves backfired, like bringing in Elvis Grbac and ridding himself of Dilfer. Or giving up extra picks to get Kyle Boller. The great offensive genius was never able to tutor anybody, and had his greatest success with veteran qbs who knew the ropes. And the worst part is that he was such a jerk about the whole thing.
to the point that i don't equate him with offense at all in my mind. playing a word association game, i think defense when i hear his name. yet he came in as an offensive mind. totally agreed on that giants team. i would argue that was among the worst super bowl teams of all time.
The funny part to me is how Ravens fans used to say the Steelers were the ones that couldn't find a QB or evaluate talent. Meanwhile, their offensive genius, as you mentioned, botched QB after QB and only found any noteworthy success with veterans who already knew how to win.
I like Billick. He's a straight shooter. Might be a giant douche, but he has that Jim Fassel piss n' vinegar attitude about him.
He was a straight shooter who shot himself in the foot with bad decisionmaking, seemingly on account of his own ego. Bravado is nice but when it hurts the team it's not so great. And he definitely lost the team because the Ravens players have been openly saying all season that the locker room had tuned him out and that he should get the hell out. I mean even Matt Stover the freaking kicker was saying this. Who the hell loses a kicker? Actually i don't know that he has a reputation for honesty either way.
I thought he would have had one more year, but BB wasn't the GM...Newsome was so he should have to be accountable as well... And no BB for OC in Houston...
Newsome was the guy who assembled all those talented defenses that Billick had nothing to do with - in other words Newsome took the team to the super bowl while Billick's high powered offenses flailed about and were just good enough to not lose. Any success that Billick had was almost directly attributable to Newsome.
