http://www.miamiherald.com/sports/basketball/story/361292.html I seriously doubt there is any truth to this.
I honestly believe the Heat were the ones who reached out to try to make a deal. Smush is awful. He is a very lazy defender and is downright rafer-esque when he isn't hitting a shot. The Heat can keep their trash.
Smush is a career 43 percent shooter and a little over 35 from three. Rafer is 38 and a little over 35 from three. So basically Smush is a way better shooter and we know he's a better defender because of his height. Smush isn't quite the ball-handler. You can get Smush with SF's contract. I don't think Smush is the answer but he's an upgrade over Rafer. He's had personality issues but everybody loves RA. Would you rather have Smush and AB at point or Rafer and AB?
rafer plays better defense. height doesnt have much to do with defense. smush is downgrading from rafer which means he is absolutely horrible. Rafer, AB >>> Smush, AB
Phil Jackson didn't want him back for the Lakers, now Riley's trying to get rid of him... http://www.sun-sentinel.com/sports/basketball/heat/sfl-flspheatnote29sbdec29,0,617855.story
Rafer and AB and it isn't even close. Rafer is a better, more willing passer and he is a better defender with his quick hands. Rafer has also proven to be a good guy in the locker room (if not in Night Club parking lots).
NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Pass Pass Pass on Smush Parker. He is not quite as bad as Rafer, but it wouldn't serve us best. The Lakers instantly got better when they let him go, and repalced him with Fisher.
I would only trade for him to move a longer term contract. Something like Smush and Zo for Mike or Rafer, preferably Mike.
if it gets us out of james contract, then hell yeah. smush is an ENDING CONTRACT. james can be moved for smush and ZO's ending contract. good move for the rockets if it works out.
How about.... Jason Williams + Smush Parker for Rafer Alston + Mike James Why the Rockets do it: We get a potentially productive player in Jason Williams (as long as he stays healthy) and save a bunch of money. Williams ($9 million) comes off the books after this year and Parker ($4.5 million total over 2 years assuming he takes his player option). This is compared to Alston ($14.7 million total over 3 years) and James ($18.1 million total over 3 years). That is a big savings and considering I don't think we are quite contenders this year even if everything comes together, this along with a couple of other expirings allows us to get a couple more pieces for a championship run. I am off the Rafer hatewagon and appreciate what the guy brings to the team, but I don't think white chocolate is that much of a dropoff and cap flexibility is very underrated. Thoughts?
he is rafer with slightly better scoring ability without the court vision and handles and with a very bad attitude. ask lakers fans how happy they are to be rid of him...
Smush Parker is a confirmed reject case as two good teams and two HOF coaches clearly wanted him out. So if Rockets trade for him, we will be in trouble.
From what I read, he has an option for next year, which he would most assuredly take. I would still make that deal in a second though. This is interesting. I'd probably throw in Luther or a couple draft picks to make this happen.
