Good move for both sides IMO. Philly loses the big contract (I had no idea it was that big either) and Utah gets a guy who can straight light it up. Utah is surely in "win now" mode so the addition of a guy who can hit from long range is a luxury they need. If he isn't hitting on a particular night then he can sit. Boozer should be very happy that they added a guy who can free him up inside so he can be even more of a beast.
It's really not that big a contract. Kapono and Matt Carroll just signed comparable contracts this offseason. But I agree it's a good move. As long as they are in rebuilding (read: tank) mode, why spend money on a role player who does better playing off stars.
I agree. It isn't that bad but for some reason I was thinking the guy was still playing for peanuts. I think I'm getting old because I still think guys are on their rookie contracts when they are in their 5th, 6th or 7th year in the league. Hell, I still thought Rashard Lewis was 23-24 until I looked at his stats and realized he was going into his 10th year.
Yeah, Jazz got a good one. Korver may not be a good defender, but it's not from lack of effort. And he's averaged around 12 ppg, 4 rpg and over 41% from 3 for his career. He's gonna be the perfect fit to Williams and Boozer. Korver has the quickest release in the NBA.
I agree. Korver is pretty much up there in terms of the best shooters in the league. I still remember that huge game he had on us last year, even though we beat them. He was hitting 3s over everybody 28 feet from the basket. Essentially though, Korver and Giricek are about equal. The Sixers really ripped the Jazz with that first rounder though. But I have a shrewd feeling that Korver might end up producing well for the Jazz. Outside of DWill, they don't have any other guard who can consistently shoot the 3, and Korver gives them one of the best 3-point shooters in the league. Now we'll see if Sloan will put up with his lack of defensive aptitude.
NOT GOOD... the last thing i want is for utah to turn things around. its going to be hard enough to make the playoffs without them adding a good 3pt shooter who is sure to get alot of open looks on that jazz team. ****
If they gave up that pick it won't haunt them for another two seasons. It's protected up to the 23rd pick 2008 & 22nd pick in 2009. That is the Knicks will likely retain them in those years if they're lottery picks. Who knows by 2010 the Knicks might be out of the lottery.
Hey I've said it before - JVG was the Marty Shottenheimer of the NBA. The only thing the prevent defense did was prevent a victory.
i dont see how this makes the jazz any better. how much better is korver than giricek? they made this move because sloan and giricek couldn't work together. they had to give up a future pick to boot. philly gets ending contract and a pick. good move for them. lateral move for jazz.
