I got a new Wii for Christmas and all I have played so far is the Wii Sports that is included with the game. I was wanting to try some games that utilize the Wii remote fully, are there any games like that? I like sports games mostly but anything new will do I guess. What type of remote do I need to play games like Madden and NBA Live as I noticed those title were available? Do I need any type of memory cards to save these games? How do I fully utilize the network (Internet) connection? Any helps, tricks, hints are appreciated.
I suggest being more picky with your selection of Wii games than with any other system. Some developers port games and only marginally (if at all) incorporate the Wii-mote, which I find to be lame at best. Tiger Woods Golf, IMO, is mandatory - even if you never played a golf video game before. I'm waiting for a Wii Mario Kart to land, only a matter of time. No real need for the memory card, as far as I've seen (hard drive in the system). Definitely need to get a nunchuk and either the classic controller or a wireless gamecube controller (plugs into the top) for playing classic games (downloadable NES, SNES, Genesis, etc). I connect via WiFi, which works fine. You can slap an ethernet cable into it, assuming you've got an internet modem close enough to it. Evan
I've only played a few games for the Wii, but this was the best I've played. Good graphics and the controls worked well.
a game that fully utilizes the WiiMote? wario ware is pretty good for that. pretty fun for multi-player too. although it does get a little old zack and wiki is supposed to be a great game that also utilizes the WiiMote pretty well. i haven't personally played it. although it looks childish, it's looks pretty fun and creative. i'll probably grab it. yeah, don't need a memory card. just make sure to grab a nunchuk at the very least. if you're interested, resident evil 4 and super mario galaxy are some great games.
Resident Evil 4 is a must, even if you've played it on the Gamecube. Madden 08 is fun, but if you have HD, I don't know...it disappointed me so much when I moved the Wii from my standard to my HDTV, the graphics were horrible, even with component cables. If you play on a regular tv, it's fun though. For really good uses of the remote, Wario Ware should be fun. Metroid Prime and Zack and Wiki uses the remote amazingly. Super Mario Galaxy doesn't fully utilize it, but it doesn't need to--it's one if not the best game of 2007.
Like someone said earlier, Tiger Woods is a must buy I also really enjoy SSX Blur (Skiing/snowboarding) I got Metroid Prime 3 for Christmas and all the reviews on it say that it utilizes the wii remotes more than any other game. I just started playing this earlier today, and I'd probably have to agree as well (at least when it comes to how much the game utilizes the Wii remote). Didn't really spend much time with the game though, so I can't really say much about the game itself (or even how it controls after the first "boss").
Metroid Prime 3 uses the Wii remote extremely well and will make you never want to play a first person shooter on thumbsticks ever again. However, it's got quite a bit of platform elements and puzzles, so if that's not your thing... check out Red Steel. This game is more of a Goldeneye type of experience. Conventional weapons like assault rifles and shotguns, and lot of firefights. However, in many ways it's a lesson in how NOT to utilize the Wii remote. There are some things that work well (pushing forward with the nunchuck opens doors and throws grenades, for example) but the aiming controls are horrendous AT FIRST. It really feels downright unplayable at first and will make you want to quit (as it did for me) but if you stick with it for a while you will get used to it and it's a very fun game. A solid 7.5 out of 10, I'd say. It really picks up in the later levels. It'll probably be easy to find a used copy since I'm sure a lot of people got frustrated and returned it without giving it a chance. Whatever you do DONT GET RED STEEL!!!!!!! It may be the worst game out there for the Wii. The controls are impossible, you spend half the time spinning around in circles.
You either suck at videogames, or you didn't play long enough to learn the controls. Sorry, but it's true.
There are probably videos on Youtube or something that demonstrate how the controls work in those games. To be honest though, it would probably be best to avoid them (or at least Live, as ClutchCityReturns mentioned). I haven't played them personally, but I haven't really heard good things about them (more so Live than Madden though). Might take some time for EA and others to figure out how to make good use of the controls. Also, I would note that if you aren't into platformers, you might want avoid SMG or just rent it first. I checked it out because of the great reviews and praise it got, but I didn't really care for it personally (although that wasn't just because I'm not big into platformers). Plus, as mentioned, it doesn't really make great use of the Wii's unique controls...and in fact, the times it tries to use it, I didn't really like it all that much. Of course, given some of the controls I've seen in other games, it could have been worse I guess.
If you're looking to get more wii remotes... WiiPlay is a MUST. It's a great value because it comes with a free wii remote. The game itself is a great family party game as well. Personally, I like rail/first-person shooters on the wii. Ghost Squad, Umbrella Chronicles, and Medal of Honor heroes 2 are a good choices. Mario Galaxy is a must have. Resident Evil 4 Wii edition is a fun game. And the only decent/good sports games on the wii that I've heard of are Tiger Woods and Madden (Wii sports doesn't count). How the hell is it that no one has even mentioned Legend of Zelda?!?! One of the best games for the Wii utilized the wiimote very well. Same goes for Metroid: Courruption (though I haven't gotten it yet) and Mario Galaxy (which I just got but haven't started to play). I also have The Bigs which is a fun game; though more on the arcade side than sim, but is a definite step up than Wii baseball; uses the wiimote well in some places but in others the motion control lags and can be a little frustrating. And then Super Monkey Ball; fun game and makes good use of the wiimote (has a lot party games which are hit and miss). The main is fun, and if you liked Marble Madness as a kid you'll probably like this; my only reservation is that in comparing the quality of the party games and the overall single player compaign, it doesn't quite match up to Super Monkey ball for the Gamecube...but it was still fun. Must haves though imo: Zelda, Galaxy, Metroid
