Being inspired by the great and awesome thread of DREAMer's that is known as the "poor-shooting" thread, I have decided that I'm going to do my own thread:

The "I play over 20 minutes a game but never get to shoot the ball" thread!

The qualifications are simple:

1) The player must play at least 20 minutes or more
2) The player must attempt 6 or less field goals

I don't want to go back to the start of the season to do this, but starting with last night's games, Saturday, December 29, 2001, I will be keeping track. So, without further adieu, here's the list:

12-29-01

Eric Williams, 23 minutes, 3-5
Eric Strickland, 27 minutes, 3-5
Michael Olowkandi, 40 minutes, 2-6
Tyrone Nesby, 24 minutes, 3-5
Jamaal Tinsley, 24 minutes, 2-5
Wesley Person, 27 minutes, 2-5
Brian Skinner, 26 minutes, 3-5
Greg Anthony, 24 minutes, 3-5
David Robinson, 21 minutes, 2-5
Malik Rose, 29 minutes, 2-6
Terry Porter, 20 minutes, 1-3
Ervin Johnson, 28 minutes, 1-1 Wow, he should have gotten to shoot more
Darvin Ham, 23 minutes, 2-3
Scott Williams, 21 minutes, 2-5
Ryan Bowen, 22 minutes, 1-3
George McCloud, 27 minutes, 3-5
Tom Gugliotta, 23 minutes, 1-6
Dikembe Mutombo, 32 minutes, 1-2
Antonio Davis, 30 minutes, 1-6

The list is a lot longer than I thought it would be, but apparently there are a lot of NBA players who are not trusted by their teammates to shoot the rock or these players don't have the confidence to shoot the rock themselves.

As an added bonus, I went back and figured how many times Olajuwon would have made this list. Here are the times with the dates:

10-30, 23 minutes, 4-6
11-23, 24 minutes, 2-4
12-2, 27 minutes, 2-5
12-9, 22 minutes, 1-6

Plus he would have made it these times, if he had met the mandatory minutes requirement:

11-11, 15 minutes, 4-6
11-22, 16 minutes, 1-5

But because I made minutes a major stipulation, Hakeem has actually made the list 4 times. I will be interested to see how many more times he will make it, assuming that this toe injury doesn't sideline him for the whole season (although with Dream, it could), when he comes off the Injured List.

I will also be interested to see how many times Cato makes this list. Damn, I wished that I had thought of doing this sooner! Oh well, at least there are like 50 games left. And maybe if I have time, I will go back and do the games before 12-29-01, but don't count on it because I can be pretty lazy!

12-30-01

Jimmy Jackson, 27 minutes, 3-6
Ben Wallace, 42 minutes, 3-6
Mark Jackson, 25 minutes, 0-1
Shandon Anderson, 23 minutes, 1-6
Othella Harrington, 26 minutes, 4-5
Charlie Ward, 25 minutes, 1-4
Steve Smith, 22 minutes, 2-6
Antonio Daniels, 22 minutes, 2-4
Grant Long, 33 minutes, 0-5
Tony Massenburg, 23 minutes, 3-4
Tony Battie, 20 minutes, 2-3
Vlade Divac, 26 minutes, 3-5
Doug Christie, 27 minutes, 2-5
Scot Pollard, 22 minutes, 3-3
Kelvin Cato, 26 minutes, 2-3 (what should be the first of many for him):p
Terrence Morris, 21 minutes, 1-3 (have a feeling that TMo will be on this list a lot in his career although that might be a good thing!)
Lindsey Hunter, 21 minutes, 4-6

Not a good night to be a Rocket or ex-Rocket. Of the 17 people that made this list tonight, 5 of them either are Rockets or used to be a Rocket in Harrington, Anderson, Massenburg, Cato, and Morris. Also, it is interesting to point out that the Knicks had four players make this list. Meanwhile, no one from the T-Wolves or Blazers (who played each other) made this list.

I think someone is a little jealous of the success that DREAMer has achieved with the poor shooting thread.

That's not a very big deal is it?

If mutumbo played 20 mpg, he would average less than 5...

Any role player that gets in for 20 minutes should get about 5 or 6 shots. No more, no less.

12-31-01

Mark Pope, 22 minutes, 1-2
Darvin Ham, 32 minutes, 0-5
Anthony Mason, 43 minutes, 4-6
Greg Anthony, 27 minutes, 3-5
Kevin Ollie, 22 minutes, 2-4
Reggie Miller, 35 minutes, 4-6 I can't believe that he is on the list
Todd MacCulloch, 20 minutes, 0-1
Reggie Jefferson, 21 minutes, 2-5
Jason Collins, 20 minutes, 0-1

You are probably right to an extent. However, I think that if a team doesn't have one player to make the list, then it is indicative of how that team runs their offense and that it shows that the ball is being spread around to many teammates.

I also think it is interesting to see from time to time anomalies like Reggie Miller making this list. You have to admit that he would be one of the last people you would expect to make this list.

Yeah, pretty odd to see him on the list, especially in 30+ minutes of action.

I haven't checked last night's game; however, I am thinking about pulling the plug on this thread.

But I wanted to ask the question: do you enjoy this list? If you enjoy it, then I'll keep the thread going. If not, then I'll end it. If you don't say, then I'll end it anyway.
