We NEED to make a run at getting McGrady!!! It is a known fact that he is on the block and will most likely be delt by the trade deadline. Even if we don't get him, we need to try our best. McGrady is a young talent that is still growing, yet has already had NBA experience (an advantage over a rookie). He has star potential, and he would fit in here great. A player who is tall can run the court and handle the ball. Can you imagine Francis and McGrady runnin' the court together? oh my god! This being said.....I would have no problem giving up Drew (who I really like but I wouldn't think twice about it if he could help get us McGrady) Walt (who I also like but he has a very large contract and he won't get much better) and Detroit's 1st round pick that we will get before 2003. so again: Drew: Toronto needs a PG Williams: Teams can always use a shooter Detroit pick: this is a great deal for them because they get a first rounder no doubt and since it is not lottery protected they could end up with a lottery pick. I know this won't work cap wise but where there is a Carrol Dawson there is a way...trust me...the cap has really caused GM's a headache, but they always find a way. For us we get a rising star in McGrady to run the floor with Francis for years to come (assuming we can sign McGrady long term) and we lose a back up pg and an "extra" first round pick. If there is any chance of us getting McGrady without giving up our future...do it!!!
The Rockets need to either do something in the playoffs (providing they get there), or get a big free agent in the off season, or do a big time trade before the trading deadline. I think one of these three ways is the only way to assure there will be enough interest in the Rockets to get them a new stadium.
