are there any open source software that can covert 320kbps mp3 files into 128kbps files without too much work. i have a huge collection of 400+ cds that i actually own. my ipod is getting filled up, so i want to make them smaller. my friends want to borrow my collection as well, they want to check out my collection. so i want to make the files smaller so it won't kill their harddrive. i don't want them to keep the files, but if they chose to, i have no way knowing. so making small files will probably encourage them to buy the actual album for better quality. thanks.
google "power MP3 converter" or just "MP3 converter", there are a bunch of free programs out there.. personally, I use Samsung PC Studio to cut music/change the format and bit rate.. it's pretty helpful and it's free.. you can also use "SUPER" video converter to change MP3 bitrate, it's pretty useful as well..
thanks, mait. on a side note, back in the old days, i would lend my cd and tape to friends. no one really cared back then. i assume this is the same thing then, lending music to friends.
Well back then it wasn't as easy to make a copy of a tape or cd. Also converting from 320 back down to 128 would make the songs sound like crap! Well pretty much any type of conversion done will make it sound worse.
oh well, i trust them to delete the files after checking them out. i used to tape other tapes back in the days ya, was time consuming hehe. in 1996 and 1997, when i first tested out mp3 before it was famous, it took 2 hours for one CD anyways, the idea is to make the quality so-so, if they really like the music, they would want to buy the actual copy if they don't like it, they would want to delete it hehe.
i do i probably buy at least 30 cds a year. cost me about 200 dollars. so if you average it out per song, it's way cheaper than itune. i never bother with buying digital files online. i rather have the actual cd, which can rip at real high bit rate anyways then i can still play the cd in a big sterero system for best sound
