I received the Collector's Edition of this movie yesterday as a Christmas present from a friend of the family. I'm not a big poker guy at all but since I recently moved to Vegas I guess the friend thought this would be an appropriate gift. At first I thought it was a little cliche, but man was I wrong. This movie blew any expectations I had for it completely out of the water. John Malkovich's performance as Teddy KGB was flawless. Matt Damon, Edward Norton, and John Turturro were all very good as well. I'm sure I'm in the minority as having not watched it before yesterday, but if you haven't seen this movie; watch it...you will not regret it.
Malkovish did indeed have a great performance. Surprised he didn't get any award nominations for that performance.
this movie came out 6 years too early in 1998 before the ESPN boom back in 2004 the is one of my favorite movies of all time, Norton and Damon gave brilliant performances, and Malkovich is top notch.
I think you're right. If this came out 3 or 4 years ago it would've been a mega hit in the box office.
yeah but I think that's just another reason why it's so cool. I saw Damon on kimmel I think or one of those shows, maybe conan/letterman, anyways he siad after good will hunting (your 1st hit), there's usually a 3 strike rule in hollywood, and if you don't hit it big on your first 3 you usually don't get many big parts, and rounders was 1 of his first 2 strikes, and then his final chance was bourne identity supposedly, and we all know how that went. The irony of course is years later people love the movie.
He said the same thing on the Daily Show about how if Bourne Identity didn't pan out, he would have been out of Hollywood. Damon pretty much bet the farm on it succeeding and thankfully it did. Jason Bourne is harder to kill than Jason Voorhees or John McClane
i play so much poker and seen that movie several times that my friend and i can't stop quoting the movie. it never gets old. i kind of annoy people with my kgb voice though whenever i am dealing.
Edward Norton does such a good job he makes me dislike the damn movie! I can't get over how selfish the guy is. I remember hating the movie after I watched it because I couldn't stand how big of a tool he was in that movie.
Edward Norton is one of those actors who is good in every movie that he is in. Basically he is the polar opposite of Ben Affleck.
I saw it in the theater when it came out and loved it. Loved it just as much watching on DVD since then.
Every time I watch that movie, I have an itch to play poker very badly. Sometimes I like to check all the way like Damon did in the end of the movie haha.
I loved that movie even before I even knew how to play poker. I wasn't even really paying attention to the game and I liked it. The characters were great. I liked it even more after I learned how to play hold 'em. Discovered Famke Jenson and actually ran into Johnny Chan in vegas at TI. He's a lot smaller than I imagined.
I can't count how many times I've seen this film. This is an excellent movie even if your not a poker player. The actors did such a great job in this film and the story line was top notch. Ed Norton is one of my favorite actors and I'd like to say this is one of his best roles, but I seem to say that about a lot of the movies he is in.
