I'd like to take the wife out possibly tonight to see some Christmas lights, and I need suggestions for good neighborhoods to go to. I'd kind of like to limit it to the southwest/south side of Houston or the Sugar Land/Mo City area. Please help! Thanks
drive out to Prestonwood Forest.....its off of 1960 but well worth the ride if you want to see an entire neighborhood with lights.....all the blocks have different themes etc.....really cool.
They still do lights in Prestonwood? When I was in high school, my Police-tribute band used to set up in my buddy’s driveway in Prestonwood and play for all the cars driving by. I’m sure everyone just loved it………. But yeah, even if it’s out of the way, Prestonwood is totally worth it. Kids LOVE it.
Prestonwood sounds cool, but it is a little far..maybe I'll wait to do that when our kid gets old enough to enjoy the lights. Anything inside the loop? Galleria or the Rice/West U area?
Best place I've ever seen, if you don't mind a drive. Is just south of College Station. (might be part of the city now...not sure) There's that drive through christmas lights displays etc.
Shepherd Park Plaza outside 610 east of 290 around TC Jester and 34th. there was an article in the chron yesterday (or monday) listing like 10 places around Houston.
Shepherd Park Plaza used to be awesome for lights but it has toned itself down considerably in the last few years. There are still quite a few houses (some insanely) decorated, however, the days of almost EVERY house lit up are pretty much over. I'm gonna guess they got tired of the crazy traffic in the neighborhood to see all the lights.
I found the Chronicle article, in case anyone else was interested in checking out some lights this Christmas: River Oaks Scott Terrace Shepherd Park and Candlelight Plaza Woodland Heights Highland Village Moody Gardens Prestonwood Forest http://www.chron.com/disp/story.mpl/life/main/5388761.html
Tony Gullo, owner of Gullo Ford and Toyota in Conroe, has a home up here in Magnolia on Old Hockley Rd. I guarantee you will never see such a monstrosity of lights and decorations on a single property. It is quite amazing. In fact, I'd bet you could see all his lights from space.
OMG. I'm working in Sommerville today/night and just saw the craziest light display ever! They had like EVERY blow up christmas decoration ever sold at Walmart in their yard, lights EVERY WHERE....and a dancing Santa with spot lights on him on the balcony. IT WAS NUTZ!!!
When I was a kid, Prestonwood was the most awesome light display. Everybody put up lights and the displays were elaborate. It took over an hour to drive through it, because everybody wanted to see it. In the last few years, fewer and fewer families are participating. It isn't nearly what it used to be. Very sad.
Let me ask a serious question... have you lived in the 5th Ward? If your answer is NO, then STFU. If your answer is YES, then thank you for the high praise, brother.
