Yep, a pure shooter would be nice instead of having pure brick layers. Was kind of hoping we'd get Reddick but, uh ... never mind. Instead we got ... I'm anxious to see AB in action, yes he was there in garbage time vs Dallas but, he definitely looks like he's got some hops in him. Maybe he jolts these veterans into getting their head out of their asses and play RA's game!
Don't be so quick with hook! We don't know if he is or isn't. He certainly merits a serious look in light of the atrocious guard play we've been inflicted seeing up to this point.
How does that compare to Steve Francis, Rafer Alston, Mike James? You guys would be shocked to see how much better the team would be...INSTANTLY with good PG play. DD
I guess you would be upset if Brooks ends up being as good as them, right? I wonder what the fans in San Antonio were thinking when Popovich decided to start a 19 year old Euro PG drafted at the end of the first round? I am not saying Brooks is the same, but...you don't really know how good he is until he gets a chance to play.. Everyone knows you are just a DD hater....I liked V 1.0 better. DD
The coaches know, they've seen him in practice and summer league. I trust coaches to make these judgments. Sometimes they are wrong, but usually they are not. We now see why Francis was benched earlier and Rafer got so many minutes- Adelman saw that Francis and James sucked. When Rafer got hurt and a fat, dumb Francis was forced to play, we saw that Adelman was right all along. Same is the case with VSpan last year. People wanted to see him, but JVG could clearly see in practice that he sucked. When he bailed on the NBA, it was clear JVG was correct.
Different argument for a different day.....but I disagree with the take on Billy. And a lot of times coaches go with veteran players becaues they have trust in them, IMHO, the better coaches go with talented players regardless of experience. You just have to live with the lumps of young talent as they learn.... Rudy T was a great example of that...... DD
Exactly, Aaron Brooks has been dissected by every NBA scout, he played college ball in a division 1 college. Tony Parker was an unknown from France, no one knew him just like no one knew the Flopper his teammate. How come the VMac Lover can't get that through his myopic head?
But you are still missing that the coaches see players practice and scrimmage. If they suck in practice, they are not going to be much better in games. Why would they? If they show improvement in practice, then coaches will see the worth of getting them experience in real games.
The same Rudy T that traded away young talent like Cassell and Horry for a Barkley on his downslide? The same Rudy T that traded for Eddie Griffin? The same Rudy T that drafted your Boki and realized he wasn't all that and thus didn't give him "the chance" his rookie year? Your "knowledge" is showing again...
Good trade - got us past Seattle Took a gamble, didn't work out. It takes a while to develop some times.....Boki turned out ok... Your haterism is showing again. DD
Well of all our rookies that we've had in a long time. Brooks is the one with the most potential we've had in a long time. Not saying he's the answer but worth a look especially since he performed so well on the USA Select Team. http://blogs.chron.com/franblinebury/2007/08/baptism_by_fire_brooks_stands.html "In addition to his on-court experience, Brooks has been pulled aside for individual talks by Kidd and Bryant. "Jason told him to have confidence, to turn the corner and go in to the basket with a purpose," Jones said. "He told Aaron that he's got the speed and the skills to succeed in the league. Now, it's all about having a plan, knowing in your head what you want to do and then doing it. "Kobe talked to him about getting off his shot. He talked about how it was important as a point guard to know his teammates and get them the ball where they feel comfortable. And he also told him that there were times when he's got to know when to take the shot himself. You can't back down. You've got to know what you can do. "Kobe and Jason both told him that he has a real future in the league and that one of the keys is just to always go out and play with confidence. Right now, I'd pull Head's minutes and give them to Brooks.
His review from Draftexpress. Sound familiar? See BOLD http://www.draftexpress.com/profile/Aaron-Brooks-332/ Brooks has established himself as the creator in a perimeter oriented Ducks lineup that consists of guards Bryce Taylor, Tajuan Porter, Malik Hairston, and forward Marty Leunen. He is easily one of the five quickest players on the college level, allowing him to penetrate against just about any guard he is matched up with. He combines his incredible quickness with shooting range that extends well beyond the NBA three point line, and he shows no hesitance whatsoever to pull the trigger if he feels disrespected by the daylight he is seeing. A lightning bug guard who can shoot the hell out of the ball is always going to be a tough player to defend, to say the least. While Aaron’s point guard skills are not what we would call outstanding by any means, they have consistently improved over his tenure at Oregon to the point that he is now able to lead a team into elite status while distributing the ball enough to keep everyone marginally happy. His vision and ability to find the open man is also above average, although his natural point guard instincts and ability to run a team are not quite what you would hope for. Although Brooks has improved as a point guard throughout the years, he still constantly pounds the ball for entire possessions, takes bad shots and looks to shoot first before passing the ball to his teammates, leaving the question in mind if he will be able to conform to the role of set up man in the NBA. His lack of ideal size (surely somewhere around 5’11) is also a concern, as he struggles a bit defensively against some of the bigger guards in the PAC-10. While he has the quickness to defend opposing point men, they are simply able to outmuscle him with the slightest nudge or out jump him and get shots up over him with ease.
Bench Mcgrady? The guy who saved the rockets last year when Yao got hurt? ... Pretty much our franchise player right now
Yes, my homerism......let's see..the team is sucking so why not try the rookie? Yep, that is really crazy man...far out there. DD
The answer is NOT Brooks. I would like to see him get some PT, but the answer? Not! IMO he's to small and would be aliability on defense, and he would get schooled. He's fast and has a shot, but the answer to the bigger problems. NO, NO way. Not with Tracy still in the line up. Tracy "Fools Gold" Mcgrady. I bet Orlando is still laughing all the way to the bank. The only answer is trading Tracy.
Jeez, another rookie talking out of his ass. Hey, if AB is running the point and pushing the ball up court that will force T-Mac to push to keep up with the pace, right? That would be a good thing. If AB puts pressure on the opposing D and actually creates pockets where his shooters can get better, open looks to the basket that would be a good thing. Hey Yao is showing an ability to run down the court but, because the ball handlers and facilitators are not being consistent with the game plan, it's bogging down the offense and frustrating Yao all the same. Until there's a better option out there, trading T-Mac is not an option. His skills may be degraded some but he STILL is better than the grand majority of NBA players. The old guard on this team when the rubber hits the road are reverting to the old reliable. RA needs to push this team out of their comfort zone with the lounging half court yawn ... What better way than thrown rookie in the fray and watch what happens. Frankly, it can't be any worse than what we've already seen. Guard play has been atrocious! The 1s and 2s play or lack of is affecting the performance of the whole team. We need a spark on offense maybe AB IS the answer! Give the man a chance before you call him V-Mac or whatever ...
