turn on ipod disk mode (go to itunes on your mac and when the ipod menu pops up there is a button that says "Enable Disk Use") and then eject the ipod. Then, just plug the ipod into your pc and copy the files onto the ipod and then plug into the mac and copy the files off the ipod. then, just go to itunes and go to File->Add To Library and select the music that you wanna add to your itunes library.

AIFF is professional grade quality. The average mp3 should be around 3.5 megabytes

Well, I did exactly as you said. When I plugged it into the pc it said "your ipod is formatted for Mac. You must restore your ipod before using it..yada yada".

Obviously if I restore it's going to take off all of the songs I had put on with my Mac, right?

Can't you get your songs out with some freeware out there? Try ANApod. It worked for me.

I did a google search. (Why didn't I think of that before?) Here's what I came up with. I'm using Xplay now.

My question is can I update my ipod on my pc WITHOUT formatting it and loosing all of my songs?

No you can't, if your iPod is formatted for Mac it won't run natively on a PC because Windows operating systems don't recognize Mac OS-formatted disks (HFS or HFS Plus formats). You can't update your Mac formatted iPod in Windows without restoring it which will erase and reformat the drive. However there are third party programs that will allow you to use a Mac formatted iPod on Windows. XPlay for instance gets good reviews and has the added functionality to let you copy your songs back to iTunes. Once you have your songs saved to the PC you can go ahead and restore the iPod for Windows. You can find XPlay at this link: XPlay 2

XPlay is currently only compatible with Windows XP, 2000, Me or 98SE, a new version for Vista is planned for release later this year.

Simple, get a 30 gig ipod. I have a non ipod 30 gig with over 2000 songs with like 25% room to spare. All highest quality bitrates.

I have a question with the Iphone if anyone can help.

Is there any way to actually place individual songs and delete individual songs from the iphone without having to use my playlists from itunes?

I'd prefer to have the songs on my iphone, but don't really want them on my computer. If I load a song into my phone, and then delete it from my computer, the next time I add any song into my phone, I'm forced to sync with my playlists, and then the songs I've removed from my computer, get deleted from my iphone as well. Is there any way around this?

Can't you just use the interweb connections to your iPhone and download the music directly to play it? I don't understand why you don't want to keep your music on your PC/Mac while it is on your phone. It's not like it's going to slow down your machine... or is it...?
