Agree. We've already seen what Moneyball can do with a lotto pick -- Shane Battier and nothing else for Rudy Gay and Stromile Swift.
was that moneyball's trade or CD's? They screwed up when they didn't pull on Kobe, can't say I would have done it for sure, i got cold feet (on paper its an obvious trade to make, but tmac/yao liked each other, and basically you'd be seeling your soul to the devil for a championship, and at the time everyone thought we had a good chance with the squad we had....ahh hindsight aka the mother of b****ing) . And the only way they could get that 3rd guy is if they miraculously got Kidd for garbage. I like the michael redd idea tho, that is if he's the 3rd guy. Scola is our only valuable assest, talent wise, aside from tmac in possible trades. Everyone else is just valuable because of their contracts or lack there of.
I strongly think Rockets need to hire a professional motivation expert to deal players such TMac and the rest. This problem is probably related to chemistry i.e. envy or dislike or unhappy towards a particular new player (or new coach?).
Since someone already beat me to the "inknown commodity" comment, I'll do this one instead. Your post advocates a (X) trade ( ) FA signing ( ) draft ( ) personnel change (X) game strategy change in order to solve the Rockets’ problems. Your idea will not work. Here is why it won’t work. (One or more of the following may apply to your particular idea, and it may have other flaws influenced by recent league rule changes). [X] It will create problems for us offensively [X] It will make our defense weaker [X] Team chemistry will be fractured as a result [X] We can’t afford it [ ] The other team(s) would never agree to it [ ] The NBA would never allow it to happen [X] It would be unpopular with the fans [X] Requires us to give up too much [ ] We already have enough talent/depth at that position [ ] That player would never agree to such a deal [ ] Our team owner would never pay for it [ ] This does not help us in the long run Specifically, your plan fails to account for [X] NBA league rules expressly prohibiting it [ ] Salary cap limitations [ ] Lack of depth/options on the trade/FA market at that position [X] Known limitations of our roster players [X] Our team’s identity and game strategy [ ] Lack of rebounding [ ] Lack of offensive production [ ] Need for a true point guard [ ] Lack of a dependable 3rd scoring option [ ] Lack of defensive ability [ ] Lack of inside/low post presence [ ] Lack of perimeter shooting [ ] Loss of athleticism [ ] Inconsistency in the production of player(s) involved [ ] History of injury problems [X] Poor leadership qualities [X] Depletion of youth on the roster [ ] Lack of league/playoff experience [ ] Attitude and personality problems with player(s) involved [X] The need to add more cash to Les Alexander’s wallet [ ] Overblown media hype [ ] Poor matchups with potential playoff opponents [ ] Poor depth of next year’s draft pool [ ] The excessive conservatism of our front office And the following philosophical objections may also apply: [ ] Ideas similar to yours are easy to come up with, yet have never worked in the past [ ] You can’t win a championship without good defense [ ] You can’t win a championship without dependable offensive options [X] You can’t build a successful team without strong chemistry [X] We only have a limited amount of time to build around our superstars [X] Too many long-term contracts hurt you in the long run [ ] It’s a dumb idea to attempt to rebuild a team in the middle of the season [ ] Players should be allowed to play to their own strengths [X] Feel-good measures do nothing to solve the problem [X] Doing it this way doesn’t make us strong enough [X] Tanking is for losers, and results in a losing culture that we may never recover from Furthermore, this is what I think about you: [ ] Sorry dude, but I don’t think it would work. [X] This is a stupid idea, and you’re a stupid person for suggesting it. [ ] Nice try, moron! I’m going to find out where you live and burn your house down!
it worked for boston because they got a true super star in KG...Yao's no KG...unless we can get a top 5 talent like Kobe or Lebron, which won't happen, Yao plus 2 your average all stars ain't gonna work.
No thanks. Celtics fans better savor these moments, because they're going to be bad for a long time once their three stars die out. They HAVE to win a championship now or the moves were a complete failure. Look at the Rockets after the Dream, Glyde, and Barkley era. Total garbage. The Celtics have no depth and not enough good role players to win a championship. Their stars are good enough for Boston to make the playoffs as long as they're playing, so they'll never be bad enough to get a good draft pick. They have absolutely no tradeable assets, and no young talent to speak of. Once the stars age, they will be back to the Celtics we're accustomed to. In fact, even worse.
I have been saying for the longest that in today's NBA, it is going to take THREE stars to win championships! We should have pursued Artest when he was available. We should have pursued Iverson when he was available. We went after Rashard, but that was too late. We need to trade anyone on our team to get another STAR! Duncan, Parker and Ginobili are all stars! That's why they won the championship! and why either them or Boston will win it this year.
i dunno if you posted the T-Mac-for-Redd-&-Villaneuva trade idea first or if i did, but regardless, i shared/share your opinion.
haha - yo, whatever happened to computermanx, or whatever the name was of the poster that came up with that form?
IMO, drafting is the Rockets greatest weakness. We haven't had a good pick, besides Yao, in 15 years. Luther was ok, but Lee would have been such a better fit. I understand about "woulda, coulda, shoulda," but year after year, many of us (not everyone, now ... lol) actually choose better players than the Rockets. At first, I would defer to the Rocket's scouting staff, assuming they knew more than we did. But, with hindsight, and re-reading many of my old posts, and stuff I wrote down, I would have rather we did most of my picks ... and others here are much better at this than me ... like "thacabbage." We make up for it in good trading and fortune, otherwise we'd be a terrible team, although we often miss good trades, because we don't sweeten the deal when we should. The thing that's hurting us the most now, is that I believe Les didn't want JVG around, so he didn't allow us to get the players he needed. Now, we're the losers, and it'll take a couple years to catch up. Unfortunately, drafting is not a short term solution, and we keep doing short term solutions through trading, not wisely building a championship team. Of course, if you don't draft well, you don't have trading chits either. But, if you think that drafting someone this year will solve anything in the short term, you're wrong. It takes players a minimum of 3-6 years to become championship caliber, unless you're Magic Johnson. So, if what you are saying is that we need to revamp our long term strategy, that I understand. But, if you think that tanking to get a draft pick will solve anything for the next 3 years, that won't work. I'll have to concur with Clutch on this one. The only way we are going to be a championship team in the next 3 years, is if our 2 superstars take us there. They need consistency, night in and night out, and have to buy into Adelman's system, and make the adjustments. Eventually, Scola and Brooks should provide some help.
Wait; Dickerson, Mobley, Thomas were all good picks. Not sure if Cassell and Horry are included in the "15 years". Nachbar is a rotation player also. The year they had 3 first round picks, and everybody bashes them over, they ended up with Dickerson and Mobley. To have 4 picks in the mid-first round and below, and do extremely well on 2 of those, is not bad at all.
