I have been to

Los Angeles
New York
Miami
San Francisco
Austin
Seattle
Cleveland
Kansas City
Raleigh
Washington D.C.
Boston
San Diego
Tucson
St. Louis
Denver
Dallas
Columbus
and many more.....

Houston is the best place to live because of the people here. We have the best combination of big town cosmopolitan sophistication and small town hospitality in this nation.

Despite our basketball team, I am staying.

What other big city can you drive to: New Orleans, Colorado Springs, St. Louis, San Diego, Memphis, L.A., Washington D.C., Miami, Atlanta, or Chicago all under 20 hours?

Houston is centrally located which means you have access to more of the country via road travel.

The restaurants have been mentioned as have the theater district, quality universities, and medical center.

Compared to other big(ger) cities, Houston is very easy to get around in. Yes, there's traffic, but the number of major highways, and easy-to-read road signs, make driving in Houston much easier than any other big city I've been in.

Houston is very close (1.5 hours away) from some great salt water fishing. We also have many fresh water fishing options in and around the city.

We also have Enron field, soon to be Reliant Stadium, and the Rocket's new facility will be up and running before you know it.

I can only wish I lived in Houston. I love the the traffic, congestion, and that great smell of dirty air. :D I am not being sarcastic either, I live in a small, boring country town in Arkansas and every chance I get to come to Houston is simply amazing to me. It's like finding the lost city of Atlantis!

Things I like about H-Town has:
1. Many restaurants
2. The Richmond strip
3. All the shopping areas
4. The Rockets (the sports in general)
5. The skyline
6. Two major airports
7. A seaport
8. All the high speed roads (even though they're dropping it to 55)
9. The universities/colleges

Man I could go on and on and on...

Houston, the world's greatest city!!!

Lay off my town CrispeeCreme!!! Austin rules baby!! The women are just as hot and not as stuck up. The people in general are less pretentious. The scenery can't be touched by ANY part of Houston. The weather is better. The traffic is no where near as bad. Need I go on??

Houston rocks.

There is no place quite like home for me.

It may not have the greatest night life, but damn when I'm away from Houston I miss it a ton.

We also have the best stripclubs by far in America.

One other economic issue:

Houston is the #1 entrepreneural city in the nation. We consistently have more business start ups every year than any other place in America, which is why we also have a tremendous amount of job diversity.

mc mark: Actually, the theater seats here are full primarily because Houston has a VERY large "society" scene. There are a lot of "ladies who lunch" in Houston and they spend a TON of money on theater and performing arts groups. There are plenty of underwriters for most all events.

I don't know much about how the theaters are run, but I do know that there are plenty of seats and plenty of money to fill them.

As a reformed Houston hater I have concluded it is a lousy tourist town, but so what. You can{t be a tourist all the time.

I like Houston more and more. It is a great place to live.

It has most of the niceties of a big city with the pace of a much smaller city in the midwest. SF NYC are great to visit, but not that great to live in.

Speaking of tourism. This post is fromOAXACA MX. Firsttime. Drove down. Good to have some Rocket news.

When somebody tells me "Houston Sucks", I usually lose my cool and respond with something like "So does your mother...thank god she took out her dentures before she did it!"

I love Houston, but honestly, we don't have the hottest girls here -- they are in Dallas . . . I have to give that to them. But they're very superficial (on the whole).

Houston has one of the most important ports in the United States.

Most people likely don't care, but we do have one of the best ballets in the US, with Carlos Acosta, Nina Aniashvili, and Lauren Anderson as principals (they are among the world's best).

Best Medical Center in the nation, with Texas Children's Hospital, and the M.D. Anderson Cancer Facilities.

One of the largest cities in the U.S. by land area.

Diversity, and good community.

Excellent Academics -- from public and private high schools, as well as great colleges (Rice, UH).

Houston is not as much of a city of have and have-nots as other places I've been. Good economic range -- lots of middle-class.

LOTS and LOTS of small businesses, from restaurants to small computer stores, Houston is home to lots of mom-and-pop businesses, more so than anywhere else I've been.

Despite the horrid traffic, we do have a good road system, although it does need some work.

GREAT convention facilities. Lots of hotels.

Nice museums.

The most/best strip bars in the nation :)

The people in Houston are nice (but not as nice as those in San Antonio).

Great clubs.

One of the most affordable places to live in the US. Also, we have cheap gasoline :)

I think the Boston folks may have different idea's on the world's best medical center, but the TMC is certainly among the top 5.

As far as eating out, Houston does have about the best combination of quality, diversity and value .

Weather, traffic and geography are big drags about Houston.

COLA, diversity (and I agree people get along pretty well compared to more segregated big cities--e.g., Dallas, Denver, New Orleans), economy, sports, arts, people are very big pluses.

DoD, I wonder if you still think the Bay Area or NE would pay so much over what you make in Texas. 1-2 years ago I agree with you, but maybe not anymore.
