I'm just wondering what you guys think of the situation in Miami.

I've never been a huge fan of Riley's. He, much like P. Jackson, is very overrated, IMO. But, at least Pat's coached some teams that didn't have the NBA's MVPs on them. Of course, when he has, he hasn't won (much).

One could say much the same of Rudy Tomjanovich, could one not? ;)

Riley won championships with one team (including back-to-back when that hadn't been done in 20 years), took another to the Finals, and a third to the conference finals. When a guy succeeds in three different places, it's safe to say it's not an accident.

Riley has been one of the best coaches. I do not like this guy, but give him his props. He is a sleazy, dishonest soul- look at the Aborted Juwan Howard deal- the league halted the signing because Alonzo Mourning already knew he had a money deal coming.

Riley is no doubt a winner. He fortunately was on two big market teams with few budget constraints. After Aronson Sr. died as owner of Miami, the Heat became $ conscious. Riley cannot win without a big purse....

Not really. Rudy hasn't coached team with the league MVP on it since 1995. Phil Jackson has coached a team that has had the MVP or a guy who should have been the MVP every year he has coached but arguably 1995, and even then he has Michael Jordan. I'd like to see Jackson rebuild a team like Riley and Rudy T have or are trying to do. I think Riley needs to move on because that team isn't listening to him anymore. That team has been shell-shocked since Charlotte destroyed them in the playoffs last year. I think the perfect team for him to coach would be the LA Clippers.

I heard on the radio that he actually did want to step down before the season started, but the owner didn't want him to.

"you built it, you coach it"

or something along those lines. Whether or not the "expert" on the radio knew what he was talking about I know not, but it sounds plausible, and interesting.

Riley as Clippers coach and GM?? It sounds appealing with the youth, but with that owner being so tight with money that will never work. Riley has to have lots of money to produce a winner. If Donald Sterling did want to sell though, Riley could put together a syndicate of investors to purchase. That would give Pat Riley the Part ownership stake he sought from New York and got with Miami......

I do not like Riley, but he is a basketball genius- he works at it 24 / 7

Well i dont really kno those ppl other then magic and kareem since im only 13. All i kno i that phil Jackson is overrated. If he gets a bad team and takes them 2 the top, then i will say i was wrong and phil is a good coach.

    Phil is overrated

    The question:
who is the greater coach . . one that takes crap to respectability
or one that takes a great team and puts them over the top

Bill fitch IMO is a builder. . can build a nice team but never could
    get it over the top
    Phil ain't built ****. . .

Phil in LA is living off his rep
Phil in Chicago was building a Rep based on MJ learning to share the ball and Pippen Maturation more than his coaching.
