Houston trades: Walt Williams $5,000,000 to Orlando Houston trades: Kenny Thomas $946,920 to Orlando TOTAL: $5,946,920 Orlando trades: Don Reid $1,000,000 to Washington Orlando trades: Mike Miller $2,494,080 to Washington Orlando trades: Steven Hunter $1,244,880 to Washington TOTAL: $4,738,960 Washington trades: Jahidi White $4,413,375 to Houston (BYC Value $3,310,031) Washington trades: Etan Thomas $1,493,046 to Houston TOTAL: $5,906,421 TRADE ACCEPTED Washington would probably need to give Orlando one or two conditional #1 draft picks. Houston would strengthen the center position, clear out some of the logjam at SF, & clear the way for Griffin to be the starting PF for the rest of the season, with Willis backing him up. Washington would move White, whom they've been shopping around, & ET, who hardly gets any PT, for a stud SF/SG in Miller & depth at the C/PF positions with Hunter & Reid (they'd be basically replacing White/Thomas's roles with cheaper versions). Unless Jordan's going to play forever, acquiring Miller would allow them to put Hamilton at the SG position & play the bigger Miller at the SF spot. Orlando is really struggling & has been reported to be positioning themselves for another run at Duncan after next season. In this deal, they would acquire a very inexpensive & athletic PF in KT, that can also play the SF & Center positions. They'd also be acquiring a rental at the SF position (to fill in for Hill) with Walt's contract expiring at the end of the year. By moving both Miller & Hunter in this deal, they free up approximately $3.8 million in additional cap space & they would also acquire 2 potentially good draft picks. With a starting lineup of McGrady/Hill/KT, a boat load of #1 draft picks, & a sh*t load of money, Duncan would have to be a fool not to go to Orlando. By the way, before anyone states that a lineup of McGrady/Hill/Miller would be more attactive, you have to remember that all 3 play the SF/SG positions, unless Hill plans on moving to the PG position. Why not trade one to shore up the PF position? Horace Grant's not the player he once was & his skills will be even more eroded by the time Duncan arrives. Just a thought.
Orlando trades Mike Miller, who's doing a good job filling Hill's big shoes, for Walt "streaky at best" Williams and Kenny Thomas? Come on. The deal would make much more sense with Houston not involved, and even then I'm not so sure.
Why couldn't we this summer do deals to free up money for Duncan? That was one of my big deals about signing Taylor,Moochie, and trading for Rice. We could have let Shanndon, Taylor, and Moochie walk, play Thomas at the 4 which we do, Walt at the 3 which we do, and brought back Colson. Then when Duncan came free, even with Steve's re-upping we could go after Duncan. That deal the guy mentioned earlier really doesn't make sense for Orlando or Washington. With the chance of more than a few sf's coming out this yr, they could pluck one from the draft, also with Grant Hill being out for the yr, they need Miller to try to get into the playoffs. Plus Hunter is playing ok, he just needs to gain weight. It really doesn't work for anyone really.
LOL, of course I would do this deal. You are RIPPING OFF Orlando and Washington to get a great back up PF in Thomas and a scrub in Williams. PULL THAT TRIGGER.
Lee- Let's say we did not sign those players as you suggested. We would probably have the same record. Do you think Duncan would want to come here? Maybe, maybe not. It would of been a big gamble. I agree with the resigning of our players but I worry about the terms. However, I believe we have a number of players that may be used as pawns in a trade. I think San Antonio would take a few of our players IF and ONLY IF Duncan wants to be here.
