I want to say Charlie on ESPN790 said something to the effect of 22 million under. He also said that Vargas, the RB from the Raiders could be on our radar.
Turner will command big bucks and while I would love to have a reliable back, I don't think we necessarily need to spend that type of money for one. I don't want to go into next season thinking Green will be our guy, but Walker looks decent, we still have Chris Taylor, and I really think we can find a good RB in the draft. Guys like Felix Jones, Ray Rice, Jonathan Stewart, Tashard Choice, etc...could be available in the late 1st to possibly the 3rd.
I'd rather spend money on more OL help and secondary help than on a RB. I know we need a RB but I think it needs to take a back seat until we have an OL. If we shore up the secondary, our defense is going to be awfully damn potent.
http://www.houstonprofootball.com/cap2008.html That's as good an estimate you're going to get. Don't forget that they'll need about $10 million to sign draft picks. They could also free around $13 million by cutting Weaver, Green, Putzier, and Greenwood. Of those four, Greenwood is the only one I'd like to keep. We also have quite a few starters who will be UFA: Anderson, Clark, Davis, Dayne, Demps, Hutchings, Turk and Weary.
I think a combo of Walker and Dayne might be what we see for the rest of this season and going into training camp. From the looks of it, I'm ok with that...as long as Dayne isn't looking for big bucks. Green is as good as gone, IMO. If Taylor can come back healthy, we might have all we need at RB. This way, they can concentrate on OL and DB help in the draft and free agency.
Weaver, Green, and Putzier are all gone after this season. Greenwood has showed up lately in the past few games. I would like to keep dayne (as a 2nd RB), demps, davis, turk, and weary.
Justin Fargas has always impressed when he gets a chance to play, but the problem I see is his durability. I do not think it is worth FA money to bring him over - but if it can be done "cost effectively" then it is worth a shot. Not sure what the Raiders are doing with Jordan, Rhodes, Fargas, and Micheal Bush - but seeing as though Fargas is in line to have a 1,000 rushing yards in less than a full season - I don't see him coming over on the cheap.
what about that other running back minnessota has the one that has been playing while peterson has been out. whats his status for next year.
