The culprit? One-time torture opponent Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-SC). Graham: "I think quite frankly applying the Army field manual to the CIA would be ill-advised and would destroy a program that I think is lawful and helps the country." So torture is counterproductive for the military but valuable for the CIA? http://www.tpmmuckraker.com/archives/004917.php [edit] Well we know where Republicans stand on torture. basso? Do you agree?
basso is too cowardly to say what he thinks, which is only marginally better than the republicans in Congress who talk like human beings but end up going along with torture whenever they can.
I'm really disappointed. I wanted this bill to get to Jr's desk and see if he would have vetoed it like he threatened. I could see the headlines! "Bush Vetos Anti-Torture Bill" That would have been sweet!
What a damn shame. When you have an administration that wants to torture just like Hussein, The Taliban, and so many other cruel oppressive govts. have in the past, one would think that our system of checks and balances could stop them. The congress tried, but sadly the GOP stopped them from helping America take the moral high ground back. It sucks.
