I think it would be really interesting to meet you face to face. I bet you are jumping off the wall in your room dancing and yelling at someone. It seems like you need to be prescribed a lot of ritalin.

You didn't respond to me, so I'll ask a question: is there no way that steroids would help a basketball player? I know there's no proof, but in your opinion is there no way a basketball player could benefit?

Cmon guys, baseball is not worth arguing over. Just ignore it like the rest of the world does, aside from Japan and Central America.

dancing and yelling at someone at the same time, that's interesting. maybe if we're break dancing.

No, steroids would not benefit a basketball player since the primary skill is not strength. Strength is needed to throw a baseball and hit a baseball, its not needed to do a layup or jump shot.

also, basketball, you do not need strength to get by a defender, you can fake your defender out or use your height (height - not helped by roids) to gain an advantage.

it may help you if you are trying to get a rebound, but as Charles Barkley said its about positioning. that's why 'fat' charles can grab boards over dudes bigger than him.

So speed, healing factor, jumping, post game, and overall strength could not be helped by steroids? Only rebounding?

The same arguments can be made for baseball - you still need timing to hit a home run. The difference is most NBA players are athletic enough in their own right and don't rely on steroids to give them an explosive drive to the basket. Conditioning and flexibility are a lot more valuable to an NBA player, although you can make the argument that with all the work NBA players put their feet through on a nightly basis, steroids would certainly help in muscle recovery.

But you have to wonder where guys like Ruben Patterson or Maggette would be if they were tested for roids at the end of the season.

it may help. but there's not a case where you see someone who COULDN'T JUMP suddenly have Vince Carter Skills. roids overall wouldn't help because the MAIN skill set for basketball is skill. That's why you don't see it the NBA.

does it help their play? absolutely not.

    here's an example:
pick a player on the Rockets and tell me if Roids would help them.
pick a player on the Astros and tell me if Roids would help them.

lets of course assume its ILLEGAL steroids. people use steroids everyday, they help for allegeries (Flonase). Also in the NBA, players are young when they come in and develop . Baseball players are usually more mature and aren't teenagers. However, when 30 something Barry Bonds turns into the Hulk, its very obvious.

You can't tell if Maggette just didn't get bigger cause he's not a kid anymore.

todays game is all about athelticism, can you imagine wade or ai without speed, or ben without his strength and jump? in the previouse decade skills were more important when you look at guys like bird.

or kevin durant, why there was concern with him in nba? he was to weak and they were afraid if hell play his game with stronger defenders....

as Ronny mentioned before, they were athletic and quick before they came to the NBA. They didn't suddenly get athletic.

First of all, this is the most logical I've ever heard you.

I get where you are coming from, but I think you are underestimating the skill it takes to hit a baseball, or throw a curveball or anything like that. Baseball is a very skilled game.

Example of benefit on Rockets (slight exaggerration): Tracy McGrady. Tracy has a wiry frame. Tracy has more athleticism than anyone(arguably) in the NBA. Tracy is athletic enough to beat his man off the dribble and get to the rim for a contested layup. Crazy roid rage Tracy does not have a wiry frame and not only beats his man off the dribble, but then he jumps over the center and breaks his arm like in the old Adidas commercial and pulls the backboard down and kills everyone on the front row. Which is a more effective player?

Example of Astros: Lance Berkman. I'm pretty sure Lance's pudgy ass doesn't use roids. He is a great hitter. If he used steroids no doubt his balls would fly harder and faster.

I just do not see how any player in the NBA, MLB, NFL, NHL, arena football, soccer, track, fly-fishing, scuba diving, figure skating, gymnastics, or whatever sport you can think of could not improve their game by using these drugs. That's why they will always test for it, and there will always be a percentage of athletes in all sports that try them. The NBA obviously has a better testing policy than MLB, but to say it is nonexistant and that there would be no way it could help a basketball player's game is just plain false.

None of us really know how how many NBA players use PEDs. I would suspect it's more than 0, though, and it's almost a certainty that the NBA isn't "drug free."

But to say that PEDs couldn't possibly help a basketball player's game is just... well... stupid and naive.

    Its also about Money.

If Tmac gets some roids does that really increase his total potential income? no. (Assuming Tmac doesn't do stuff now)

If Berkman goes off and hits 20 more home runs and the fact baseball has no salary cap, how much would he demand for his salary... He'd straight up go to the Yankees and get LeBron James money!

not to be "hater" but i seriously think that lebron was on hgh growing up. that guy was a beast as far as his size and strenght in hs. tmac and others came to the nba all skinny. if im not mistaken lebron came from a family wealthy enough to support such a habbit. i know i am a hater, but i just dont see how an 18 year old could look like that.

What about Greg Oden? was he on HGH when he was like 2?

wrek, you're wrong about lebron's family

    Early life

LeBron James was born an only child in a low-income area of Akron, Ohio to Gloria James on December 30, 1984. Gloria James was around the age of 16 at the time and just 6 months shy of graduating from high school. Moving frequently from one home to another,[1] situations began to somewhat improve for James when his mother began a relationship with Edward Jackson. James did not have much contact with his biological father and Jackson became a father figure to him. He regularly attended James' high school basketball games.[2]

By that logic, no NBA players should lift weights because being strong doesn't effect skill and therefore won't make you better and get you more money.

You're back to being r****ded again.

I can easily see how steroids, HGH and other performance enhancing drugs would benefit basketball players. Consider how much of an edge sprinter and other track athletes get from steriods as those will greatly benefit developing explosive muscular power. Now if steroids can help Ben Johnson beat Carl Lewis for a gold medal think about how much that could help make a basketball player get faster to the ball and add more leg muscle to leap higher. Think about putting Yao on steroids to add upper body strength and you could have a 7'-6" Shaq that hits free throws.

In addition to steriods drugs like HGH and epo would greatly speed up healing time and endurance. Instead of T-Mac being out for 10 games he might be only out for two games. Instead of having Francis huffing and puffing he's going at full speed for 40 minutes a game 7 games in a row.

Tinman is right that anyone that makes it to the NBA has great innate athletic talent but that is the same with anyone who makes it to the MLB, NFL, Olympics or any other elite athletic level. The difference is at that level where everyone is already a gifted athlete minor edges make huge differences. Being able to add on a few percentage more of muscle mass or endurance could mean the difference between benchwarmer and star.
