If you played basket ball . . . pick up games you inevitably come upon a SQUAD that obviously wants to play together they know each other when someone in the game previous to theirs needs a extra man or two two of them begrudgingly join the squad . .. and half *ss it You see them the next game with their buddies and they look like a different players Is this out current rockets They play their best with who they have become comfortable with over the last few years? Not only plays. . . but the system When in doubt they revert back to what they comfortable with When Adelman tries to put in his system . . they go through the motions and then say . . See that didn't work . . we won 52 games last year. . . why change . .. let's do it like we always do it [like some folx b*tch that SF did when JVG came here] My Point is . . . can we say the Rockets have really TRIED Adelman's system? I remember how Awkward Yao was when he started working down low . . . Do you all remember that . .. Folx that been here longer that 2 season do Their was so much Ruckus about it . .. he eventually got it [Trust me. . I'm not JVG guy but he was right on that one .. still i do miss the nice passing and shooting of Yao's 1st year . . .can he not do both???] I think these rockets need to get out there an Give it the OLD COLLEGE TRY If Adelman came here. . .and is going to run the JVG system . . FIRE HIS *SS RIGHT NOW!! You was NOT brough here to run the same ole same. . We would have kept JVG for that . . . Implement your system. . a system something GOOD and NEW . . . or get the h*ll out of Dodge. . your knowledge is USELESS if all you going to do is run DA REGULAH! Rocket River
There were times it was very obvious last night that they were trying it. Actually any time you saw Chuck with the ball at the top of the key, they were trying it. Tmac got some good screens to break free for an open jumper. Yao got a couple of good back door passes to player (I don't think they necessarily made the shots) The post up, kick out, repost worked a couple of times, which we didn't see near enough of last year. The longer this season goes on the more you will see the comfort zone being expanded to Adelman's modified motion offense. The key is going to be stopping the stagnancy (is that a word) when Tmac gets the ball in the high spot.
If you had played any organized basketball, not just "pick up games," you would realize it is going to take longer than 23 games to understand and fully implement Adelman's offense.
I'm not too sure if the Rockets are really playing any type of system. Seems to me that McGrady, when he's on the floor, is getting the same freedom that JVG gave him last year. There were a few pretty baseline cuts and twice the defender on McGrady just fell down and he was wide open, then took the jump shot. I know that Adelman's coaching system requires passing and hard cuts, but so far, it seems that we are reverting to iso post moves, and not many cuts (Except for Hayes though, since he's been doing those for the past 2 season). Plus, I think it's just me, but the screens, when they come, never seem to be fully strong enough to get the cutter wide open, like in the Pistons game several times McGrady went behind a screen, got the ball, and Prince was already in his face, then he drills the shot in. However, one major point to bring up about the Rockets offense is that Adelman himself has said htat he's going to try to add his offense layer by layer, so I wasn't overly concerned that we weren't playing like the Kings of old, but I'm wondering, how long will it take for the layers to come, and when they do, who will be in them?
First off I'm sure the Rockets are trying to learn whatever Adelman is teaching them. He comes with pretty good credentials and every player respects him. The problem is we don't have the players the 01 Sac Kings have. None of our bigs are good passers, so we have to rely on our bread and butter, the T-Mac and Yao pick and roll. It's not that they arent trying to learn, we just don't have the capable players to run his offense.
Who coached the Detroit game? Sure looked like a street brawl, JVG kinda game. I liked it. Obviously Detroit did not. Long live the "Chumps."
