I'm interested in how much venom will be spewed in lieu of the Clemens involvement in the steriod scandal. Bonds was crucified by the media and American public for cheating, will Roger suffer the same fate? Should he?

Better question, if Roger isn't treated the same way as Barry then what kind of racial statement does that make about our sports culture and it's opinions? Or is it not about race at all, if not, please explain.

    Thanks.

I'm sure race will be a factor, but I think overall, Bonds gets the worse treatment because "chicks dig the long ball"

Clemens is no choir boy danny. He played the Astros and the Sox, writers have called him the "Texas Con Man" and then there is this article .

Clemens doesn't own any meaningful MLB records, so the "purists" won't care as much. Clemens is a media w****, compared to Bonds always being a jerk to the media, so the media won't treat him as badly. Race might have a little to do with it, but it certainly isn't the number one factor.

Yeah, Clemens is an *******, but he knows how to play the media. Bonds is an ******* and never learned how to play the media. And generally, Clemens is considered to be a good teammate. Bonds' teammates tolerated him because he was so good.

Bonds lied under oath, and still hasn't come clean, let's see how Clemens deals with it.

I think they both deserve what they get......

But for the record, I would still vote them both into the Hall of Fame.

It doesnt matter. What matters is image. Bonds never seemed to embrace his fans like a Ali, MJ, etc. There was nothing to gravitate to. He seemed very cold on top of the cheating and lying. He never showed much respect and humility like an Hakeem. Personality goes a long way.

I was never a big Clemens guy. He seemed like a dick too.

7 cy-youngs is a meaningful MLB record. I'm curious as to if they will be an asterisk or if baseball will enforce the Marion Jones rule.

That is intersting to me too, will they put an asterisk on all this eras records?

But, I doubt they have that much backbone.

I just don't see how they can do that without a positive drug test. Or, I guess, a perjury conviction.

I think all of this is crappy.

Yeah, Bonds supposedly seeded very bad relationships with a number of reporters over his career. I've heard, here on Bay area TV, he isn't the easiest guy to interview (and not just because of inaccessibility) and isn't all that well liked in the locker room. Here the news casters reported it like major news when Bonds manged to actually be polite in an interview or actually talk to the media.

So when he screws up, it really is payback time.

Who views Barry Bonds as a race issue? I don't. If the guy wasn't the world's #1 a$$hole then maybe the media would go easier on him....

It's only a race issue to those that want to make something out of nothing...

    An honest question ...

How were Bonds and Clemens treated by the media/fans prior to ANY involvement with steroids?

The answer to that is that Clemens was revered while Bonds was hated.

i read somewhere that bonds has his own personal leather recliner in the locker room. WTF?

clemens is no chior boy as many have pointed out. but in my opinion, clemens isnt in the same league as bonds as far as being a jerk.
