Rafer was great last night. Hoping he is the answer for the PG of the team.

What are you talking about? Rafer is "The Best Point Guard in the World" (you've never heard of).

A little old school stuff right there. I don't claim this, SLAM did in 1997.

I was going to post this!

Rafer gets a free pass from me until the All Star Break for mentioning Lew Lloyd and knowing Robert Reid's birth name!

Reminds me of a couple other superstars people would be willing to trade T-Mac for...but nevermind that.

I don't get why people are claiming that they don't think Rafer is the answer at PG?

Of course he's not...no one asked you think that but this is a Rafer Appreciation thread, not a Rafer is the Best PG in the NBA thread...

    And I appreciate Rafer. :)

Rafer played OK yesterday. Rafer played OK last year too. If we take Rafer as our answer to pg position, Tmac will be the superstar who fails passing the first round 7 freaking times.

The problem I have is that . . I honestly don't think they gave it a real chance
I think the expected it to fail . . .and they in a sense wanted it to fail
so they can revert back to what is comfortable

As much as people love to rag on Rafer primarily about his shooting, it's clear that we need him to be successful. He brings more to the court than people want to admit. We haven't done very well when he's out of action.

Yeah, he could occupy the "Quitter's Section" on the bench next to Bonzi...

If that really is the case, then I don't see us going far in the playoffs. Think about it. Skip is a good player, but hes not Magic Johnson. Last year, we won so many games without Yao in the lineup. Now, you're telling me that we are that bad when Skip does not play? If so, then T-Mac or Yao, maybe both are not doing their job. Because it seems as if Skip is the most important player on this team. Which is extremely sad and kills any title hopes.

Barring a trade, this team needs Francis to step up and split the PG position with Alston. Alston and Head have their upsides but they proved they were not enough to man the PG position last season. And I'm afraid they'll prove it again this year, if not in the regular season then in the playoffs.

oh sorry DD. That lends all kinds of credibility to what might be a wild rumor that is now taken as fact by the board because of who posted it.

Didn't mean to get in the way of the spin machine!

    Cycle on!

That doesn't make any sense. Rafer was INJURED not benched. If Tmac was going to "sabotage" James and Francis, then why didn't he do it in the Pheonix game where Rafer was healthy and sitting on the bench for Francis who hit the game winner? Rafer has started every game he has been healthy enough to play in, so what is there for Tmac to protest? Especially if "his guy" is on the injured list and not even an option in the first place.

I appreciate the fact that the offense seems to run "smoother" when Rafer is in the game.

BUT, his short-comings are so painfully obvious. I counted multiple times against Detroit last night where Rafer had an opportunity to push the ball and create a fast break, but decided against it. Again, to be fair to Rafer, this was the right thing FOR HIM to do. But you got to have better than that.

What's more, the smoother running offense is still not that good with him.

I'm like a broken record saying this over and over in some threads, but our offensive sets are amazingly boring/bad thus far into the season.

I don't want to speak for the boss, but I think he meant in the offseason when the team was trying to get Riddy of Rafee.

Why waive him? It's not like he's causing problems within the team. It'll be a waste of money. You never now what injuries could happen espeically with guys like T-Mac and Bonzi. Hell, you never know if Skip tries to dunk again and pull that groin. You know, it doesn't hurt to have a deep bench. One of the things we lacked last year was help from the bench. It's better to worry about having too much talent as opposed to worrying about not having enough talent.

I wonder which combination will be stronger in their full strength.

    TMac+Rafer V.S. SF3+Cat ??
