When Tmac came off screens off base line, made a curl and did a catch/shoot, that was very smooth and in the flow of the offense. Not only his shots looked good, but the other players' movements/spacing were good too.

I really didn't like the jumpers he took at the top of the key. Many of those are coming off ISO plays that didn't pressure the defense, made the whole offense stagnant, and there weren't a lot of passing angles. I just don't understand why he did that so many times during the game.

Its been well documented by the resident board statisticians that McGrady has NEVER really been a penetrator his entire career and has ALWAYS been a jump shooter. Even the "old Orlando T-Mac" was a jump shooting fool.

He had one year when he drove to the paint a decent rate (his best scoring season) and teased everyone. Then the off the backboard dunks and such made it appear he was carving 'em up left and right off drives.

But jumpshots don't make it into highlights. For each of those highlight dunks and layups was 9 to 10 far distance heaves that don't get shown ever in highlights...Plus he has a bad back so understandable why he wouldnt be a wreckless Gerald Wallace or Dwyane Wade type driving in and taking a beating

Still, he's so good at it he could (should) mix driving in to the bucket more. ESPECIALLY when the path to the bucket is WIDE open in front of him

thing is with a player like t-mac, he is such a freak of nature because of his size and the length of his arms, almost every shot to him is an open look as long as he elevates. Granted he does make some bad decisions and i hope he tries to drive more late in the game, but i just wanted to see it from his perspective maybe.

He has not been driving much because he lost confidence in the refs for never making calls and also whenever he goes to the line he struggles.

When the game is on the line in the 4th quarter, I always cringe when Tracy McGrady takes one of those ill-advised shots. It makes people scream "NOT AGAIN!" when he misses. It's very frustrating.

I really wish he would stop doing that crap.

People (including TMac) don't understand. A bad shot that goes in is still a bad shot. A good shot that doesn't go in is still a good shot. TMac takes too many bad shots. He makes some (about 25%) which encourages him to keep chucking. Maybe this is why the Tony Parkers and Manu Ginobilis of the NBA have a way higher shooting percentage. It is because they very rarely take bad shots (and maybe that's why they are leading the West and have won the NBA championship multiple times).

As many have said, I'm sure, why don't you just read this forum and you'll see it's a repeated topic all the time.

And look, Tracy wins games for us. Wins more than loses. If he wants to take outside shots, I say he ****in takes em. I don't care, he's the ONLY player that has been consistently good game in and out. Even when his shot isn't falling, he's still impacting the game in a positive way.

Why many here still choose to b**** about him, I'll never understand. b**** about the parts of the team that are under-performing. Not the guy that is keeping us afloat this year, and carried us last year.

He dropped what was it? Around 30 points give or take some? At times when we couldn't score, he could. I don't know how many times I say, Thank goodness we have him at least.

Yeah I watched the whole game, I always do. He mixed it up well tonight with drives and jumpers. He only took like one shot that I was like "no!". Why doesnt anyone care when Yao takes 20 footers? What about when Yao didn't see T-Mac coming off a screen right next to him and was wide open? I don't hear anything about that.

I just don't get why'd everybody here is so pessimistic all the time. Yeah it was an ugly win but we still won. And the offense was being executed better even though guys were missing lay ups...and I'm with everyone else with the free throws being really bad...but wow look for some positives.

    Look...plain and simple

1 min and 20 sec left in the game and you're up by only two after being up 10points 40 seconds ago.....YOU DO NOT SETTLE FOR A 20FTER WITH 9 SECONDS LEFT ON THE SHOT CLOCK!. I don't care how good he is, that's basic basketball. You put pressure on the defense under 2mins with a lead. You don't settle for 20fters.....Tracy does this all the time. He's so gifted it's silly for him to settle....it's called being lazy with a sprinkle of overconfidence.

Thank You. I don't know why people are so surprised that T-Mac shoots a lot of jumpers. I guess only seeing highlights of him on ESPN will do that to you. He has always been more of a jump shooter as opposed to a penetrator. When he scored his career high 62 points, the majority came from the same type of jump shots he takes in Houston. Combine that with a sketchy back, you aren't going to see McGrady take it to the hole and dunk it on somebody's head like he was 20 again.

Completely agree. If you're wide open at 20 feet with your feet set, that is one thing, but off the dribble or just facing up, that's another. The purpose of the offense is to get the highest percentage shot you can. Furthermore, if your team is leading, you want to also run the clock. Better yet, get fouled (okay, maybe not in this game), a almost guarantee an increase in the lead as well as having the opportunity to set your defense.

exactly. he analyzes the defense and knows there is a mismatch in the shot defense on him. he shoots 52%! he makes 3 of 6 three pointers!

talk about the worst time to whine about tmac's jumpshot.

Going to the hole late in the game, knowing you're going to get clobbered because you've clanked every free throw you've shot for the night, requires physical and mental toughness. That's why McGrady shoots jump shots.

I see why this dude has never got out of the first round then....When the going get tough and the pressure get going he goes in to jump shot mode.explain to me why his team always have 3 and 3 game leads in the first round then the other team won in either 5 or 7 ?

well at least we're whining about it even when he's making those jumpshots...shows a bit more consistency than the rockets have. ;)

you've gotta admit that he had some wide open lanes down the stretch of the game last night...and settled for the jumper.

don't know if this has been mentioned but tmac stated after the game that he was bothered by the fans sighs and boos when he was on the FT line.................that might be one of the reasons he was so scared to take it to the basket....because he didn't want to get fouled and have to shoot freethrows.......................the guys is soft in every way imaginable..............
