Aren't the coaches worried about this? There were a couple times in the 4th quarter were the lane was wide open after a pick n roll but he decides to take 18-19 foot jump shots instead of driving and putting pressure on the defense. This will haunt us throughout the season unless someone from the organization talks to him about being more aggressive....especially in the 4th quarter.

Great point! I have NEVER read a take like this before on this board!

Seriously though, this thread just restates the obvious......TMAC takes way too many jump shots

There was a point late in the 4th where his man fell down. He could have driven it in and at least drawn the post defenders in and given Yao a layup but he took a 19 foot jumper instead . . . which he missed.

He was making shots in the 4th, and most of them were good looks that he couldn't pass up. At the beginning of the game he went to the rim nearly every possession.

Well....depends on the situation. I can bet you that no coach will ever tell someone of Tmac's talent to drive the ball when he was that wide open on that play where his defender fell down. Any other player or jumpshooter would've taken that shot........you just gotta live and die by the sword in that situation. Imao he also sparked us with his two 3's in the 3rd quarter so that was good. Also the fact that he drove more.........but the FT's........WTF?!?
now THAT is what he needs to work on the most right now because he's not fully taking advantage of penetration fouls.

Seems like that's what we've come to know from him these days...sans the dunk at the end of the first half. But tonight, he made more jumpshots than he usually does...so the numbers are a bit decieving.

He did seem to be shooting fairly quickly down the stretch too...

Didn't say he wasn't good but most nights he just makes it easier on the defense by settling for the jumper. He'll have 1 good shooting night and 3 bad ones. By going to the basket you create more for your teammates, get to the free throw and rack up team fouls for the other team and get easy baskets when your outside shots aren't falling.

My theroy is his free throw shooting, or lack there of was playing tricks on his mind. In a close 4th quarter game if he drives and gets fouled, i dont think he wants to lose the game for us at the line, knowing he couldnt hit squat. He has so much faith in his scoring abilities from the perimiter, on a night when half of his shots were falling from outside...he prolly thought he had more of chance to hit from there than at the line. Just a theroy though.

Again people get the misconception that the 50% meant it was all J's when it fact the reason it's so high is because he penetrated (Went to the damn Rack) Take that away and he is shooting around 30-35 from the damn field.

Going back to the orginal post what I hate more is his fade-away shots on every J whats the damn deal with that..

On one instance tonight Tmac got the screen and roll...the Pistons switched and Tmacs defender slipped. Tmac had an open runway to the basket but he settled on the jumper instead. The jumper went long. He does settle for jumpers way too often and sometimes that hurts the team. But he was efficient tonight and he was the reason we won tonight.

If he makes em, great. But then again, T-Mac is not Reggie Miller.

That's how confident he is with his jumpshots.

But, ideally, situations like that he should have penetrated to the basket. That's why he never gets to the 2nd round of the playoffs. Defensive intensity is diffrent there. It was over all a very ugly game. We were missing a FT and we were still taking long range jumpers. But, hell, a win is a win. I like their composure when the Pistons were closing in in the final minutes. That kind of win will give them confidence.

IF T-Mac is shooting jumpers coming from screens on his spot is ok that is part of the motion offense.

Now shooting jumpers after dribbling to much and with a man on his face no good or if the line to the basket is open and taking for jumpers instead.

Today he shoots a lot of his jumper in the offensive system that Adelman want to implement, he was coming from screens and shooting in the flow of the offense, all good, he still going to take some shoots that make you wonder but that is what superstar do some time, Kobe, LB23, B. Davis, etc they all do it.

I honestly dont mind tracy shooting jumpshots ... the only thing is his timing... you gotta stop doing that late in games when its a one possession game esp when the lane is completely open infront of you... maybe he didn't want to go to the line because he couldn't make one single free throw and was shooting well tonight ... anyway we won and that's what matters most.

    I don't what I'd rather have...

T-Mac taking a jumpshot which he has a decent to good chance of making

    OR

T-Mac taking FT's with the game on the line when he is 0-5 from the line that night.

    Tough, tough, tough...

I don't care what T-Mac does in the regular season so long as the Rockets make the playoffs and T-Mac turns up his game in the playoffs. Until then, just don't get injured. I'd rather him shoot jumpers all day than bang up his body. He did have that one dunk though... That was pretty savage.

Oh and T-Mac had a good shooting game today, he will have a bad one too, it evens out. He's averaging 44.6% this season so that's not a bad percentage. Maybe if he had a terrible game tonight or if he was stinking it up in the season % wise then it's a valid complaint.

I don't care, but IF he doesn't turn it up in the playoffs (and I mean overall, not just driving in once every now and then) then I think everyone's going to very pissed, including me.
