Which was personally weird for me, because before the season started I wanted to start a thread on him being the type of point guard the rockets need. A big guard who could shoot and get rebounds. A guy who had no issues bringing the ball up the court and setting up the offense. A tough guy, for you younger guys who really never saw him play, he played center in college. This guy is exactly what the Rockets need, its only a coincidence that he played for Adelman. He really was one of my favorite players because he new how to run a team. He was clutch.
I'm always seeing coaches and players on game day in the Park Shops downtown. its next to the four seasons where they all stay. he's a coach for the pistons
Terry FREAKING Porter. The guy that made Adelman look good in that rough n tough 90's era. Porter single handedly gave that team some balls and guts. An attitude. God knows Adelman didn't give those Blazers that physicality. That combo of physicality, ball movement, shooting, and motion. That was sexy.
my co-worker and and boss were at quizno's in there one day. my boss tells my co-worker, kobe's standing behind you. sure enough, it was kobe and bynum in line behind him.
I've thought of Terry Porter a few times as well when I think of the type of PG this team needs. Great player, great leader, great winner. Billups reminds me of Porter quite a bit.
There was Buck Williams too for most of that good stretch. But I agree with what Porter brought, and don't mean to take anything away from him. Always one of my favorite players. You should check out some of his Assist/turnover #s from those years, especially the early ones...
I actually watched a lot of terry porter, but now I'm thinking I sold him short as a role player. He was arguably the second best player on that team. He average ten assists one year, and his ratios are in the upper three to one range. in 90-91 he averaged 17 and 8 assists to only 2.3 turnovers and shot 51% percent from the field and 41% from the 3 line. That my friends, is insanely efficient. I wanted to do this thread in the dish on under appreciated eighties to early nineties players. he's a prime candidate
If only Uncle Cliff did not have a bad habit of disappearing in big games, that team would have won some championships.
