    Nyko Reveals Wireless Wii Nunchuck
Exclusive news and first pictures revealed.
    by Gerry Block

December 6, 2007 - The Wii is a pretty slick system in many ways, from the small and understated proportions of the console to the minimalist yet powerful Wiimote. In our minds, its only really glaring aesthetic shortcoming is the fact that the Wiimote and Nunchuck are tethered by a wire that gets in the way during gameplay and makes storing the controllers a hassle. Many have debated why Nintendo didn't extend the Wii's wireless capabilities to both controllers, and there have been rumors from time to time that Nintendo is considering launching a wireless option.

Today, IGN can exclusively reveal that Nyko will beat Nintendo to the punch with a wireless Nunchuck alternative. Set to make a public debut at CES next month, Nyko's Wireless Nunchuck will mirror most aspects of the first-party model but will finally cut the cord between the controllers.

Nyko's Wireless Nunchuck will employ 2.4-GHz wireless to communicate with a receiver module that jacks into the Wiimote's usual Nunchuck port. As the pictures suggest, power buttons on both the receiver and Wireless Nunchuck will turn the connection on and off.

In terms of gameplay, the Wireless Nunchuck should function just like the first-party option, as Nyko looks to be remaining true to Nintendo's general layout and button locations. Pricing and final release information will be announced at CES, so until then, enjoy these exclusive first pictures and start looking forward to even greater freedom in Wii gameplay.

    awesome!

I can't believe nintendo dropped the ball on that, but i guess they are just too busy trying to focus on making enough consoles.

Sorry but Nyko is total garbage. I bought one of their intercooler system for my 360 thinking it would prevent the RRoD but instead that thing actually sucked up all the dust and blocked the airflow through the vent. Total waste of money and time and I will never buy another Nyko product again.

My wife bought a Wii Remote charge station by Nyko. Worked fine for about 3 months then it stopped charging the batteries. We would put a completely bad battery on the charger and it would charge for about 10 seconds then say it was full charge. apparently there are lots of people having the same problem.

How important is the nunchuck? SHould I wait for the wireless? The only games they have are Mario Galaxy and the sports games that come with it...

The system comes with a wired nunchuck. They'll need it to play Mario Galaxy, but the only Wii Sports game that requires the nunchuck is boxing. So if they're really dying to engage in 2 player boxing matches, then you need to invest in one more nunchuck. But for now you're good.

like others say. it comes with one but an extra wouldnt hurt. I don't think you need to wait for wireless. The wire isnt that annoying, although when i played madden i had a couple of times i "over did" it

I don't think the wire is that annoying, and there is something equally annoying about having so many pieces of equipment. Even though wireless effectively reduces the amount of equipment, volume wise, having it connected kind of made it feel like 1 piece. I can see myself losing one or the other more easily now...
