You people must think I weigh 350 pounds! I'm a slightly spreading 235, only 35 pounds over my playing days weight. AND DONUTS ARE FOR BREAKFAST! I've been all over the Linksys site, and found the manuals. Like I said, it doesn't help when all I can do is think about giving it a try. Thanks for the help though. I believe I have a clear enough understanding now to get this thing up and running. BTW, anybody watching the Sac-Pho game? No stats are showing up online. Is Webber playing?
I used to have a buddy that did all this for me, but we had a falling out. Now I have to learn this crap. I am not a techno-geek. Plumbing, roofing, auto repair, anything that I can use my tool box on, I can handle. Computers....well, let's just say some computers are lucky I didn't have my hammer handy.
A great walk-through with screen caps on setting up a home network. http://www.dalantech.com/basic-lan6.shtml I, too, am on a home network using the linksys dsl/cable router, before I worked out the kinks on file sharing I used AIM messenager to do file transfers, since both of my computers were able to get online. I just sent the file(s) to myself on AIM. AIM realize the files were being sent over the same network so I was able to transfer about 4GB of music in a couple of minutes.
Behad -- make sure you have "File and Print Sharing" on, but the big one, and the one that screws most people up: make sure you have "NetBEUI" installed. If not, that really botches the whole job.
Good point. Bean Head, you need to have the NETBEUI protocol installed in Control Panel -> Network icon. In the list you have there, you should have TCP/IP and NETBEUI as the two network protocols. I remember the first time I started monkeying with networks, I'd always forget to install NETBEUI.
A big THANK YOU to DaD and DoD and everyone else who helped with my question. Within 10 minutes of getting home, I had all three computers linked and my network enabled. Thanks again guys! I knew I could count on the CC.Net brethren.
